Most of you might have heard of Tony Robbins. He went from working as a janitor to being a multi-millionaire who sells inspiration for a living and is a globally known personality. But do you know where he got his first inspiration from?
When Robbins was 17 and earning $40 a week, he spent $35 for a 3-hour seminar of Jim Rohn who was a famous American entrepreneur, motivational speaker and personal development coach. The course taught him that the most important work that he could do was on himself. The best investment that one could ever make was not a financial asset or stock, it was on oneself.
“Jim made me stop focusing on what was outside of my control….and taught me to focus instead on what I could control”, Robbins writes in his book, ‘Money: Master the game’. “I could improve myself. I could find a way to serve, a way to do more, a way to become better.”
Jim Rohn said “Your level of success, will rarely exceed your level of personal development, because success is something you attract by the person you become (and not by the person that you are)”.
I think it’s worth reading once again and contemplating.
We all want level 10 success (on a scale of 10), in every area of our lives – health, happiness, finances, relationships, career, spirituality and so on and so forth. We want to become the most successful person in our life and surrounding. We know it will bring us fame, money, adulation and satisfaction. But if our levels of personal development (knowledge, experience, mindset, beliefs, etc.) in any given area is at a lower level, say at 4 or 5, life is always going to be struggle and a tale of frustration.
As ‘success is something you attract by the person you become’. A level 3 person can’t attract level 10 success.
So why not take efforts to develop ourselves personally by surrounding us with people better than us (research shows that you become the average of 5 people that you mostly keep in touch with), by reading inspiring books or by listening to audio books. Most of us spend some good time while commuting; why not use at least a fraction of the time for listening to a good podcast or an audio book on www.audible.com? (many of you might already been doing so). Now everyone has a smartphone and can hear/see podcasts. One can develop oneself by joining a professional part time course, joining various speaking forums and sharing the learnings.
Now some of you might be wondering, “…. but where is the time?”
Jim had also said, “If you really want to do something, you will find a way. If you don’t, you will find an excuse”.
I think these are a few secrets to success and blissful life...Any doubts?
