Businesses Are Unprepared to Defend Against Ransomware Attacks, According to an Arcserve Global Study, Which Reveals Significant Data Security Gaps and Rising Costs
Why do companies have to ruin their press releases with claims that are just not true? Arcserve chose to spoil an otherwise interesting press release by starting it with the following phrase "Arcserve, the world's most experienced ransomware protection and unified data resilience platform provider….."
Let's be clear – Arcserve are NOT the world's most experienced Ransomware company, and that remains true even when they caveat that with the words "and unified data protection platform."
Like all Backup companies jumping on the "ransomware bandwagon", Arcserve espouse immutable backup in this press release. Don't get me wrong, immutability is very important in ransomware defence, but if the original infection is contained in a backup, it won't save you. The net is it's just one element of ransomware defence.
The survey they ran is interesting, especially the parts showing the average ransomware fees businesses have been paying, which you can read about here.
Exabytes Partners with Google Cloud to Create SME Kick-Starter Bundles, Offering Google Workspace to SMEs
I like this announcement. The truth of the matter is that hyper clouds like google really can't support small companies. Local cloud service providers bridge the gap. They allow small companies to use hyper clouds but still get local hands-on support, which SMEs need from time to time. The free domain is a nice touch, and no doubt Exabytes will do the domain transfer, meaning fewer businesses will use an unprofessional "gmail.com" for the business email and domain.

Just to share my experience, when the alliance was made with Sophos claiming superiority in ransomeware protection, we couldn’t find any demo or a setup showcasing how the solution actually protected from ransomware. They just kept ranting everywhere as last line of defence. Albeit no doubt UDP is quite a good backup solution with its feature and they should just have enhanced it more and covered most of the database protection in the enterprise.

2 年Recently met with a Product Manager from one of distributors, after looking at the list of solutions, I saw Arcserve. Immediately I remarked that "wow Arcserve is still around ? ". He replied that Arcserve has not done much marketing. If this is the type of marketing messaging, then I think this is not helping. (Personal perspective only).
