YESVEMBER
Ready for a small challenge?
Turn the rest of November into Yesvember.?
"Yesvember" is something I have shared with this community in the?past .?
No, I’m not asking you to transform your entire life by turning yourself into?Jim Carrey ?where you can’t say “No” ever again.
Consider saying “Yes” one place where you would normally say “No”.
A networking event that takes you out of your comfort zone.
Traveling solo for a weekend to a city you’ve never seen.
A coffee with a colleague or old friend from your past.?
A date night with your spouse, a sibling or children.?
My kids love "Yesvember" because we say “yes” to things they love.?
And...they have to build that "yes muscle" to the things we ask.
Everyone gets a win (within reason).?
But this also works in corporate settings. At your next team meeting, have the courage to ask the open-ended question:
What's one place where we should say "yes" where we're currently saying "no"?
And, if you're really brave, try:
What's one place where I should say "yes" where 'I'm currently saying "no"?
The longer I play in the courage game, the more I realize that we need to create better opportunities for people to speak their truth. Saying "yes" to a psychological safe space for a hard conversation puts you on a path for 1) building trust, and, 2) over time...picking up time.
What’s waiting for you on the other side of “Yes” is growth.?
Pick one thing.
Start small.
Say Yes.
