Creator Fam, what’s good? Are we ready to feel the effects of spring? Or as our faux-spiritual Twitter girlies say, “I feel a shift coming”. They’re not exactly wrong…It’s time to get clear on your worth, learn how to generate major leads from the app you’d least expect, and keep a finger on the weary pulse of TikTok in the USA.?

The Moment We’ve All Been Waiting For

TikTok CEO Shou Chew appeared before an unrelenting Congress last Thursday to stress the app's independence from China and lack of intrusive data collection. Despite the fact that the collection practices are no different than other US tech giants (backed by independent researchers) and that TikTok’s based in LA and Singapore, Congress is still not convinced.

Primary concerns of national security are emphasized by the app’s influence on young kids and teens, and continue to bubble with each answer that Shou Chew provided (when he could). “I don’t believe that TikTok — that you have said or done anything to convince us,” said California Democratic Rep. Anna Eshoo. Meanwhile, TikTok has banned deepfakes and will not allow any synthetic media unless there’s a disclosure in the caption or as an overlaid sticker. But if TikTok goes under, Meta, Youtube, and then Snapchat will most likely gain the most.?

Yesterday’s Price is Not Today’s Price!

But, what if yesterday’s price was an arbitrary amount to begin with? A new report by social media management and influencer marketing platforms, Later and Mavrck, found that 37% of creators set their initial rates by guessing. There’s still a lack of pricing standardization going on in the creator community, and brands (especially big ones) know that and will take advantage if you let them.

Youtube

Buckle up podcast creators, Youtube is adding new video download options (amongst other management improvements like more podcast analytics!) and launching an experimental hashtag recommendation tool. Creators will be able to download their videos on their mobile devices, which opens up access for quick sharing and teasing across platforms.

Instagram

Honestly, this app improvement is long overdue – Instagram is finally working on allowing Reels to play for their full duration within the Stories flow. This could continue to support users' growing inclination to share through Stories and DM. One question, will a Reel view through a user’s Story count towards creator analytics?

Twitter

Maybe the long-form text world Twitter is rolling out will be more interesting with their latest update – text formatting options! Being able to italicize, bold, or underline selected words in each post is a great opportunity for creators to share their content more directly on the app rather than link it off.?

Linkedin

As one of the best (and maybe most underrated?) platforms for organic lead generation, creators need to start using Linkedin to its highest potential. It’s more effective than Facebook and Twitter at generating B2B leads! This is the platform to be more personal and develop connections, so leave the “salesy”, pushy “buy me now” content at home. @LloydNotGeorge has been able to expand newsletter sponsors and Podmin clients this exact way.
