Yesterday I Allowed My Ego To Drive

Yesterday I Allowed My Ego To Drive

Today, I want to share with you a recent encounter on LinkedIn, a dialogue that turned into a moment of introspection and a lesson in self-awareness.

The Encounter That Sparked Reflection

"William, we connected here yesterday," began a LinkedIn member, after viewing my profile. "I'm not sure what kind of job you think you are a fit for now. Can you give me a brief answer? Did you look at my profile and read my job search post yesterday?”

My response was candid: "Hi, LinkedIn Member. I find it very telling that you looked at my profile and don’t know what I am equipped to do.”

The member, seeking clarity, replied, “Totally not what I asked you.”

I acknowledged with a simple, “Okay.”

But the conversation deepened. "Bill, here is the problem. When I ask that question and you can't come back with an immediate answer, it suggests uncertainty or a lack of ability to quickly articulate your value," the member explained. They shared their experience of assisting over 2,000 individuals across 11 countries in getting rehired, highlighting the challenge of the current job market.

I expressed gratitude for their insight, recognizing the value in their advice. However, I also shared my own experience: the overwhelming daily messages offering resume rewrites, business or life coaching, and mentorship requests. I admitted my frustration, acknowledging the complexity of my situation.

Turning Conversation into Self-Realization

This interaction was more than just an exchange of words; it was a mirror reflecting the need for clarity in my professional narrative. It reminded me of the importance of being able to succinctly articulate one's value and goals, a skill crucial in today's competitive job market.

I am not sure if there is a perfect response but here is mine:

"I'm Bill, a trailblazer in business and leadership. Renowned for pioneering innovative strategies and driving operational excellence, I transform challenges into opportunities, leading companies to celebrated heights, including recognition by Forbes. My essence is innovation fused with synergy, thriving in uncharted territories to create environments where both customers and staff excel. As I seek executive roles, particularly in customer care, my focus is on optimizing processes and building robust, future-ready teams. My goal? To not only achieve operational success but also to inspire the next generation of innovators and leaders, leaving a legacy of enduring progress and excellence."

Thanks for reading,
