YES - You can switch off

YES - You can switch off

Do you find it hard to switch off from work mode into family mode?

I've lost count of the number of people who have told me this week, they have an overactive mind. Individuals who always try to switch off, but this just never seems to happen.

I know exactly what this feels like, as this was me for the first 40 years of my life!! If you finish work and are with the family and find your mind constantly wondering back to things, you should or could have done during the day, then you are not alone. Perhaps you would love to reduce that feeling of mental fatigue and want to be so much more present with those you care about. After all, this is why you are working right!!

For some, you may have tried so many different strategies before. I know working in the financial planning profession for 20 years, there was an expectation that you had to work 60 hours plus weeks to be successful. As a result, despite your best intentions to get a better work / life balance or to finish work a bit earlier this just never seems to happen. You may even feel guilty when spending time with the family, that you are not working. There are so many clients who are waiting to hear back from you. As a result, you can feel like you have a huge weight on your shoulders.

When I started working with Saul in late 2021, he felt the same. He was easily distracted and found it very hard to switch off. Saul felt guilty that we was not performing at his best level, and he had lost his spark and drive, which also had a knock-on impact on his family life. This is such a common challenge, particularly for those who are at the mid-point of their careers, and have family as well as work commitments.

Having worked together with Saul, his mindset completely shifted, and the results were transformational. Saul shared recently:

“The coaching with Tony has had an incredible impact. I have new levels of focus and have access to a new toolkit which has set me up for success. I have implemented new super productive habits and it has helped me to change my whole life for the better”

If like Saul, you would love to be become much more productive whilst working, however also learn to switch off, to enable you to truly enjoy your family time, then book a free discovery call now! There is no time like the present, Start Today .?

Your turn...

Here are 3 simple things you can put into practise right away!

  1. Have clear boundaries between work and home life. This used to be easy when we worked in offices every day. Unfortunately, now the lines have been blurred. However, this can be achieved. One first step could be to leave your laptop in your study at all times.
  2. Switch off notifications on your phone. If you are anything like me, when you hear that ping, you get drawn to pick up your phone. Why is this? 9 times out of 10 this is not important and can wait. If you were born in the 1970s or 80s, then you will remember that we functioned very well and there was life before mobile phones. Therefore my 2nd suggestion, is to turn those notifications off. CHOOSE when you look at your phone, rather than the other way around.
  3. Get prepared the day before. We all know the benefit of a To-Do list. However, I am not referring to creating an endless list of tasks, that most people prepare and never complete. I want to introduce the idea that before you finish work today, you identify some critical tasks (some goal achieving tasks), that you plan to get done tomorrow. When you do this, you will go to bed with a plan already in mind and will feel ahead of the game before you start.

Give these ideas a try and let me know how you get on ??
