Yes, You Can Afford To Invest In Real Estate

Traditionally, Canadians save up a large pile of money for a down payment and live in the home they purchase. Investment beyond that – the kind that can build wealth – is often out of reach for the average person – particularly in metropolitan areas like Toronto or Vancouver. With prices continuing to climb over recent years, many people simply can’t even get their foot in the door to buy a starter home of their own.

I have been fortunate to be able to buy some real estate and have done well in that but I also had the luxury of buying 20 years ago and reaped the benefits of previous markets. Under today’s conditions, the same actions wouldn’t bear the same results. Starter houses are expensive and condos are getting more and more expensive and smaller at the same time.

Every day it seems to get harder and harder for the average person to get involved in the real estate asset class – it’s discouraging for many. The number of conversations I’ve had with friends and colleagues about being locked out of the market made me wonder why it had to be this way.

For the past two years, we have been quietly building addy. A company that offers everyone the opportunity to become a homeowner through access to real estate investing at any amount, regardless of income, age, or other conflicts. addy is changing the game so that literally everyone has a chance to get into the market by reducing the barrier to entry to $1.

We completed our first deal on Vancouver’s Trout Lake. It sold out to 305 investors in addy’s network. Investments ranged from $1 to $95,000, and the average investment was $4,551. Investors were spread across the country. It was the first of its kind in Canada.

Today, we are announcing our next investment property located at 45604 Airport Road that will launch on August 11. It is a commercial property leased 100% to Starbucks. addy members with funded wallets will be first in line to invest.
