LAWYERS, THIS IS YOUR LIFE
When I was a little girl, I loved watching a television show called "This Is Your Life."
They invited a guest, sometimes a celebrity, to come to their television program. Then the host would review the guest's life, talk about their ups and downs. They reminded the individual of the good times, happy times, and how they had helped others.
They reminded them of people from their past whom they had contributed to in a meaningful way. Many people they had not seen in years would appear on the show, family colleagues and friends. Sometimes there would be tears of joy.
They honored someone who deserved to be celebrated. The host of the TV show took the time to remind the guest of their significant contributions and sacrifices they had made for others. It was always a happy reunion. As a little girl living in an unhappy home, I enjoyed this happiness vicariously as I watched the show on our little black and white television.
LAWYERS, THIS IS YOUR LIFE.
Many lawyers forget all of the good times and the good things they have contributed to others in the hustle-bustle of life. They may forget about the hard work and sacrifices they have made to become a lawyer in the first place. As a client, there is nothing more comforting than having a lawyer who cares and has your back.
It Is About Your Life: You have invested much time and hard work in your law practice. You may not give yourself credit or realize your value. As a result, you push yourself and sacrifice your mental health issues.
You may beat yourself up because you did not achieve an unreasonable expectation or goal that you imposed upon yourself. You put your own health and well-being on the back burner for others.
YOU ARE SPECIAL AND VALUABLE
I want to ask you a question, are you more valuable than a thoroughbred racehorse?
A thoroughbred racehorse can be very expensive. In 2007 a United A thoroughbred racehorse can be very expensive. In 2007 a United States-based sales company sold 9,124 horses at auction, with a total value of $814,401,000, which gives an average price of $89,259 per horse.
These horses tend to be spirited, bold, intelligent, and athletic. Not everyone can handle these hot-blooded animals, but these horses can be magnificent! They can travel up to 70.76 kilometers mph (almost 44 mph) per hour and are bred to be the fastest horses in the world.
For a thoroughbred racehorse to have peak mental and physical health, it requires special treatment. A common problem weak or brittle feet that require often changing shoes. They are high maintenance and need more feed and supplements. Needless to say, upkeep is expensive.
Lawyers are a special breed and require special care to be top performers.
With an above-average IQ, lawyers are known for their drive, hard work, and ambition. They are intelligent, sensitive, can be aggressive, assertive, alert, high-strung, sensitive, paranoid, and suspicious. Along with these qualities comes a tendency towards depression. Pride will have lawyers ignore their health and hide any vulnerabilities.
What are some of the symptoms that you may need to ask for help?
- You are forcing yourself to get things done.
- You have difficulty getting yourself going in the morning.
- Your concentration is less than optimal.
- You may feel worn-out or be sleep-deprived.
- Your motivation is low.
You must value yourself and consider that you deserve more care and attention than a thoroughbred racehorse.
It's up to you to recognize your imitations. With the proper guidance and support, you can practice self-care techniques and completely turn around any depression, stress, burnout, and learn to love your life and law practice again. You don't want someone to analyze you. You want someone who will take the journey with you side-by-side to get you out of the pit of depression. I take the journey side-by-side with my clients.
If you need help, value yourself enough to ask for support.
You give so much to others. Now it is time to let others give to you. No man or woman is an island. No one stands alone.
Attorneys who ignore the signs, keep pushing themselves, or try to do this can suffer great consequences.

3 年Attorneys are a rare breed that needs a specialist like you to help them reclaim the lives and passion. You must be a lifevest for so many who are struggling! I can see how they would need to "zone out" on medias to escape, do you see this as a common theme or are they more likely to have an addiction for escaping the stresses?
