Yes, It's Three Years and Days

Yes, three years have gone by since I joined the JIS Team in September 2021.? It has been a great experience learning about a “new industry”, i.e., the production and dissemination of Government news and national information.? As the Strategic HR Business Partner, I have collaborated with the Management Team to find solutions and strategies to address talent acquisition, development, engagement, and motivation, and we have had some successes.? I have had the opportunity to work on the development of some key policies including JIS Flexible Work Arrangement Policy, Public Disclosure Policy, Sexual Harassment and Prevention Policy and Business Continuity Plan.? The HR Department implemented several regulatory and business-driven training programmes, yet we still have much more to achieve. Thanks to the HR Team and the various committees that worked with me or invited me to work with them as we learned and grew from the different assignments to meet business requirements or compliance.? While engaged at my core, I also answered the call to participate or collaborate with colleagues in other entities building connections and networks, sometimes just in the spirit of reciprocity or simply paying forward.

Three years ago I said, “After 20 years and 5 months…”, I was starting a new journey.? I changed job during the COVID-19 period, a time when many persons exited the workforce or their businesses or would have been scared to set out on a new adventure.? If you play it too safe, you will lose.? If you stay in the safe, the known, the familiar, you will stagnate and may even die professionally.? Remember the cheese gets slate and has also been moved.? With climate change, Our Icebergs are melting or as a small islander, our sea level is rising.? What are we going do with the rest of our lives??!!!?

Today, I collected a batch of certificates from my colleague Allison Hugh of HEART/NSTA for my team members of Cohort II who stayed the course and completed the Diploma in Supervisory Management.? This is a delightful feeling to see the idea of one of my team members bearing fruit from a MOU with HEART/NSTA for staff development.

As I close this missive, I hope to share more often (not another three years) going forward and share some insights occasionally, beyond some brief thoughts in reposting some great content creators, insights, and actionable knowledge from diverse experts on this platform.? Thanks to all who have sent me congratulatory messages or likes in recognition of my three years at the JIS. ?So many persons to thank for support over the three years, so call any names today, just A MASSIVE THANK YOU.
