Yes, Blogging is Dead (For Real This Time)
Here’s why:
1. People rarely revisit blogs
But people check X, LinkedIn, and other social media platforms every day.
2. Google has hypnotized bloggers
Now, all anyone cares about is getting organic search traffic (not connecting with their audience).
3. It’s purely transactional now
Search > get answer > exit
And most importantly:
4. People don’t create great stuff anymore
There are some exceptions, but for the most part, the great creators have left blogging for YouTube and other platforms.
So why am I telling you this?
Well, I know I’m being a downer, but I’m actually super optimistic.
You see, it’s clear that Google is turning the dial on “experience,” which is the first E in E-E-A-T (which is propaganda for scaring webmasters).
Reddit is crushing it in the SERPs now.
Is Reddit content well structured and optimized?
No.
But what it does have is subjectivity and originality.
And because of tools like Surfer, every blogger now copies what’s already ranking because “that’s what works.”
Big mistake.
The goal isn’t to be like everyone else.
The goal is to crush your competitors by doing things differently.
Competition becomes irrelevant when you stop copying and start innovating.
But more importantly, on the point of blogging:
Stop only creating content to maximize your SEO.
If 100% of your content is purely SEO-driven, then you’re approaching your blog the wrong way.
Your blog is a marketing vehicle designed to get your ideal clients to know, like, and trust you.
But here’s the truth:
I’m as guilty of this as anyone else.

Not anymore.
I’m going back to what made blogging great, which is unique ideas, opinions, and strategies that no one else can replicate.
Yes, this is my “Make Blogging Great Again” rant.
The truth is, I know most people will keep pumping out keyword-targeted content because they’re slaves to Google.
But you have a choice:
Be a part of the herd and bow down to Google.
Or:
Do what’s right and give incredible, original value to your audience so they actually want to come back to your blog.
Want to know if this works?
Check out Seth Godin’s link profile:
People link to sites that share unique perspectives and create original content.
And it’s no secret that backlinks are the most important signal of trust (for SEO).
You can buy links until you’re blue in the face, but until you fix the root problem, you’re going to be on the Google algorithm hamster wheel forever.
The root problem is that you need to focus on building a brand, not an SEO strategy.
SEO shouldn’t be your leading strategy. It should be fuel on the fire.
For example, Google could take all my organic traffic away today.
And guess what?
It would have virtually no impact on my revenue because I’ve spent years building an audience.
I recommend doing the same if you want to thrive in this new SEO world.
Finally:
You’ll notice a shift in my content strategy from now on. I’m going back to creating whatever the heck I want, and I won’t be a slave to Google.

P.S. SEO is not dead. You just need to focus on building a brand and educate your clients on how critical it is.

10 个月Great piece Nathan Gotch> You are so right, we have turned into pawns in the Google game. They say jump, we say how high. They have been wielding their influence with an iron fist, and most of us just play their game, because well, we thought we had to. After reading your article, I'm a bit motivated myself. Maybe I should write on topics I actually care about, and hope that others do too. The whole keyword research header tag optimization thing starts to get so methodical. Let's make it fun again.
Ranking is fluctuating these days so fast that's why I use ESL Ranks Pro to track and monitor all my SEO projects at one place.
