Yelp ranks Nashville restaurant top of list

Two Nashville restaurants were named to Yelp’s 25 Best New Restaurants in the South list.

Coming in at No. 1 is East Nashville’s Noko, located at 701 Porter Rd. Owner and Founder Jon Murray, managing partner Wilson Brannock and executive chef and partner Dung “Junior” Vo?opened Noko in March 2023.

Standouts mentioned by Yelp include the burnt ends lettuce wraps, tuna crispy rice and the wagyu fat-washed Old Fashioned.

This fall,?the Noko team will debut?their new restaurant Kase, next door.

A-Roi by Smiley Thai, co-owned by husband and wife “Big-O” and Amy Yimnoi, ranked No. 7. It’s the third Nashville-area restaurant for the couple, following Smiley Thai in Mt. Juliet and Poy Thai in Goodlettsville.

Sandwich factory closure eliminating 240 jobs

Almost 240 workers in Dickson will lose their jobs this fall, as a food supplier shuts down its plant west of Nashville.

Monogram Foods notified state officials that it will be closing its sandwich and snack assembly factory in Dickson. The Memphis-based business will begin layoffs Sept. 16, "with all separations complete" by Oct. 31.

Monogram acquired the 9-acre property at the end of 2021 from Conagra Brands Inc. (NYSE: CAG) — another food supplier that itself had previously announced plans to end operations at the site. Monogram has $1.4 billion of annual sales and 4,000 employees across 13 locations.? |? Read more

Nashville-area ZIP codes make inaugural Wealthy 1000 list

The Nashville area is home to seven of the the nation's 1,000 wealthiest ZIP codes, one of which made it into the top half of that class.

That’s according to The Business Journals Wealthy 1000, a new ranking of the nation's wealthiest ZIP codes based on a weighted formula involving several wealth metrics, such as per-capita income and average home value.

Tennessee is witnessing one of the greatest influxes of $1 million-plus income earners of any state —?gaining more than 5,200 such residents just between 2020 and 2021. Nations restaurant, Printers Alley bar close

It was last call for two area restaurants.

Rock’n Dough Pizza and Brewery closed its Nations location last week. The restaurant's lease was ending at the 1105 51st?Ave. N. space.?The Tennessee-based restaurant has been in the market since 2019 with its 3449 Dickerson Pke. location and is working to open a Gallatin location at 2145 Nashville Pike this fall.

And in Printers Alley, Birmingham-based bar?Black Market Bar + Grill?closed in June, according to signage on its 209 Printers Alley storefront.

The Nashville location marked the brand's first expansion out of Birmingham, after co-owner George Cowgill had been eyeing the city for years.

The bar and restaurant opened only last year. Its two Alabama locations appear to be open.? |? Read more
