From a young age, we have all heard the saying, "Failure is the pillar of success." However, have we truly grasped the profound message it conveys and its significance in our lives? Have we ever paused to contemplate why failure is necessary for achieving success? Why can't we strive for perfection and succeed without any setbacks?
I'm from Bangladesh, and the concept of failure is not acceptable, not a trivial one and the same goes for all Asian countries. Parents often harbor high ambitions for their children, expecting them to constantly strive for victory and avoid any form of defeat. Since failure is believed to bring disgrace and disappointment to the family, it is deeply feared by all. Numerous children have endured great hardship as a result of this prevailing mindset, which drives them to strive for impossible perfection. It is disheartening to witness countless children suffering under the weight of these expectations, relentlessly pursuing perfection at the expense of their well-being. However, in today's world, we are increasingly recognizing that persistence and resilience hold greater value than the pursuit of perfection. It is simply impossible to be flawless and completely free of errors or failures.
Failure serves as a platform for growth and exploration, providing us with invaluable opportunities to troubleshoot and discover new paths. When we encounter failure, we are compelled to search for alternative solutions and navigate through numerous possibilities and variations until we find the right one. This process allows us to gain a wealth of knowledge and insights that would otherwise remain elusive if success were immediate. Failure expands our learning opportunities and enhances our understanding and observation of the world around us. Therefore, the true path to success is accepting failure as a way to learn, developing the ability to fail fearlessly, and overcoming setbacks to realize our goals. Maintaining a journal to document our failures and successes allows us to identify trends, analyze them, and gain a clear perspective on our journey. We can determine what has changed since we began, which variables exert significant influence, and how we can address them through a step-by-step plan. Unfortunately, we rarely learn from our failures or even pay attention to them, other than by resenting being a part of a failing process.

Success and failure are two sides of the same coin, both carrying an equal probability of occurrence in our lives. Yet, we tend to fixate on success stories, believing they inspire and motivate us. In doing so, we overlook an entire segment of the population—the individuals who have experienced failure or have been forgotten. How can we obtain accurate and reliable results when our data is inherently biased? Can we genuinely claim that these success stories are a source of inspiration? Have we ever dared to delve into the root causes of success for those who have achieved excellence or the reasons behind failure for those who have stumbled? Perhaps these overlooked stories have remarkable lessons to offer, shedding light on unexplored avenues and providing novel insights. Have we attempted to establish correlations between these two extreme groups of people? What factors contribute to success, or is it just a mere coincidence for some people? If such success factors exist, have we determined their effectiveness, and how did we evaluate them? Are we biased when identifying similarities and blindly accepting them? Are we victims of survivorship bias? Do we possess the skills to navigate success and failure and learn from them?
There are moments when we need to stop, reflect on where we are right now, and then go forward with newfound clarity on our journeys. We may need to go through cycles of learning, unlearning, and relearning to complete this process. Let's start by exploring failure stories, learning from them, and applying those lessons to guide our pathways. Who knows what the future holds for us? By embracing a balanced approach, and prioritizing both success and failure, we can become agents of change and set a new standard. Let us establish a paradigm where we value both success and failure equally and learn from both. Let us be the trailblazer, the game-changer, daring to pave the way and redefine the rules, fearlessly embracing both triumphs and setbacks with grace, ultimately shaping ourselves into the visionary leaders of the future.
