Yearly Appraisal : Is it a Single-day exercise?

Just a month into the new financial year Or the appraisal year; HR teams get into action. Most of the MNC’s have automated systems that ask individuals to fill their self-appraisal forms & then the line managers appraise in the same system itself. Finally at the macro-level moderation happens & ratings are granted.
If this is an “Appraisal of a Human being” then let AI do this next time.
Definition (Google Search Result) : Appraisal has multiple meanings, including?the act of estimating or judging the value of something, or an estimate of value itself.
In most of the cases, the appraisal is an excercise where an individual's value is estimated using performance dimensions & metrics.
What about the value estimation by the individual? (One is rated higher, even the pay raise is handsome, however not moving forward in one's career & life)
If we go even by the above meaning, then it becomes highly important to let an individual understand the “Value” that is added by the organization in the same period. (Organization is a set of human beings working as a system-force therefore all line-managers are key stakeholders in the appraisal.)
General understanding is that an individual gets? appraised against a set of OKR’s (Result primarily is attached to a set of KPIs), there is hardly any discussion of the value added by the organisation.
Evolved understanding is :
Appraising the learnings
Is there an increased understanding of a career/business/job related subject? (For example : Has the individual advised to pursue upcoming/next- level/missing skills.)
Appraising the “Way-Of-Work”
Is there an Increase in Vitality of an individual (Builds the clock)? Or the individual has become more functional (Just Doing the Good Job – Tells the time) ?
Appraising the Career Path
Has he invested energy in carving his career path as conceptualized along with his reporting line managers?
Appraising the Manager
Has the individual shown a path (Coached) on possible learnings & career path?
Appraising the Challenges
Does the Individual carry any ageing challenge ?(Challenges that have been raised by him earlier & still open for solution/discussion)
Appraising the Ideas
How many ideas/decisions that were autonomously carried by the individual?
Appraising the Life
Is the individual growing in personal life (For example : Has he taken up his long due dream of learning a hobby skill or investing time for self?)
Appraisal is continuous & infinite, it requires a “Servant-Leadership” approach, not a Single-Day Exercise!!
