Not a great tagline for a year gone by. I am 40%+ through so many famous books but not able to hit the finishing line. As a voracious reader who prided herself on her bookcount, this entails a deeper dive:
- Bestsellers are not necessarily best reads: A lot of the books I selected were topping the bestselling charts or referred by successful people. However, a lot of these books can actually be 50 pages, and not your average 300 pages. Perhaps Writers need to double down on the fact that conveying the same message in the least amount of words is what makes you a great writer (can this sentence be shorter, hmmm?). And Readers need to come onboard for paying for really thoughtfully written 50-pager books.?
- Short Attention span: Perhaps I have fallen victim to the dopamine hit of starting a new book, and not finding enough patience to read through due to point 1 above. Definitely cannot seem to replicate the experience of being obsessed with a book continually for a week or two till I was done with it (literally like falling in love with a book).
- Reading only for Self Improvement: Makes the nice habit of reading seem tedious.?
- Chuck the Bestsellers?
- Chuck the Self improvement books
- Go back to Classics (Top 50 fiction and top 50 non fiction books to read before you die). I realise that a well written fiction book has the power to teach you more about self improvement and human perception than a lot of these fast moving best sellers.??

10 个月Couldn't agree more ! I myself have left reading bestselling books half way for lack of patience. Writing should be about conveying your point with less words.
True that about unfinished books. I just keep buying and stocking ,stuck at 20 % even with good fiction.
