The year so far – and where we are heading next

I’m writing this as the potential impact of coronavirus on the economy and therefore the used car sector is starting to become apparent but, whatever is heading our way now, it is clear that, as an industry, we have had a pretty positive start to the year.
The latest cap hpi editorial pretty much sums things up, saying that “business has been good with demand remaining high” and this echoes what we have been hearing on an anecdotal basis from dealers during 2020.*
In fact, the biggest issue that most seem to have been facing is sourcing the stock that they want at the prices they want to pay. Certainly, we have seen substantially increased activity through 1link Disposal Network and have been working closely with the dealers who use the platform to ensure that they are able, as much as possible, to get hold of the cars and vans they need.
How the situation changes over the next few weeks and months is almost impossible to predict, with the coronavirus crisis changing on an almost daily basis. It is very much possible that this year will shift abruptly from a good Q1 to a very difficult Q2.
What we can say with certainty is this – epyx has always tried to forge a genuine partnership approach with its customers and we are very much here to help in terms of advice and help through the next few months. Our account team are primed to provide as much support as possible.
We very much see this as something that we all need to tackle together.
