Well, 2024 has officially wrapped up like a gift from your quirky aunt – unpredictable, a little weird, but mostly painfully educational for humanity. So, before we get too cosy in our Christmas sweaters, let’s take a two-minute ride through the wild year that was 2024!
First, let’s talk about technology. The year began with the AI revolution, but this time, it wasn’t just chatbots writing your essays or creating art. 2024 saw AI claiming it could even cook your Christmas dinner (spoiler alert: it made your stuffing taste like cardboard). The robots are getting smarter, but, apparently, not smarter enough to nail grandma’s secret gravy recipe.
In the world of pop culture, TikTok and streaming platforms were still at the top, but, in a surprising twist, it was the return of 90s reboots that stole the show. Yes, your favourite childhood cartoons were back, and now they're way more emotional. Who knew the "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" could make us cry? Yet, here we are.
As for politics, well, let's just say it was a mix of “What (TF) is going on?” and “We’ll deal with that later.” It seemed like everyone was waiting for Father Christmas to fix the world’s problems, while we focused on holiday shopping, avoiding awkward conversations.
Oh, and did you notice the global weather? From heatwaves in places where it never usually gets hot to blizzards in areas that usually send postcards saying, “Wish you were here!” Mother Nature had a real sense of humour in 2024. Perhaps the joke is on us.
Amid all the chaos, there were bright spots. People truly embraced making the most of their time – more face-to-face moments, less time on Zoom. We called in daily meditations to fix our issues and, perchance, found the courage to chuckle at the sight of our homes resembling a Christmas tree explosion.
As we raise a glass of champagne (or something stronger), here’s to 2024 – a year that taught us resilience, the unexpected, cherish the small wins, and, of course, figure out how to get through 2025 with more grace and a lot more kindness in the world. Hopefully… ;)
Merry Christmas, everyone!
