Year One with CAM Integrated Solutions
2022 proved to be another challenging year following 2 years of COVID lockdown.
I guess the most important thing on most people’s minds is the staggering inflation and the increased cost of everything: the adjustment from years of low interest rates, low taxes, and pent-up urge to go wild and spend.
It’s kind of like we just ended the introductory rate for the cable subscription and now we have to pay full price.
And yeah, there’s this war in Ukraine that has mostly affected Europe, though it’s had a global impact on just about everything. The World is supporting Ukraine till the last Ukrainian solder is standing and is afraid to confront the big bully in the room. But that’s a rant for another time. We have other stuff to worry about.
For me personally, the end of 2022 marks my first year with CAM Integrated Solutions and a transition from a being with an operator to being with a service provider.
The transition has not been easy. It required a different approach to Project Management: a shift from managing capital projects to managing revenue projects. Basically, going from spending money to having to make money.
Having a world of experience and technical know-how still helped, but learning a new business was a challenge. There are still schedules, budgets, and deliverables: but these now have a different focus: meeting payment milestones vs. achieving in-service dates.
It’s nothing new: it just boils down to good communications and clearly understanding the expectations of both sides.
In my former life, I tried to be as fair with contractors as I could, and was probably more transparent than I needed to be. It all comes down to dealing with people and not just an entity: people who have their own challenges and are prone to mistakes.

And it’s how we manage these challenges and address the mistakes that determines how successful the outcome will be. A contentious relationship will have a bad outcome, so a little bit of empathy and understanding goes a long way to ensure success.
It’s understanding that the client's needs to have their stuff to be correct and on time, and that CAM is a business that relies on revenue to provide this. This is not a conflict but a supporting relationship. A successful client ensures a successful provider, and the opposite is true as well.
At CAM, I am now the provider I used to have to manage, with a purpose that I do not to have to be managed. I’m striving to be the trusted go-to guy for engineering services.
We’ll see how that works out.
CAM Integrated Solutions, as the name implies, has various entities that offers a variety of services that can integrated to offer a packaged solutions, notable engineered process equipment and skids. Check out their webpage: https://www.camintegrated.com/.
CAM provides traditional O&G engineering and design, including RNG. Other capabilities include Utility Scale Solar design, pipeline engineering, survey, and automation services and equipment.
2023 looks to be a busy year. Of course, it could always be busier.
I’ve started another expensive home project, so I need the work. You hire CAM and my kids get their awesome, over the top play and sensory room.

Project Management Professional (PMP)
1 年I’m sad to say that today is my last day at CAM. It’s been nothing but a great experience and, in the short time I’ve been here, I’ve learned a lot from some really great people. There’s a lot of great talent at CAM that have the creative insight to execute a wide range of projects. But I’m going to pursue something else that I’ll share at another time. So, to the fine people at CAM: thanks for letting me camp out in your office this past year. We’ll keep in touch.
