A Year at NSG Group

Today I celebrate my one-year anniversary of being Communication and Human Resources Executive at NSG Group Malaysia. It has been an incredible, thrilling, exciting, humbling, and fast twelve months (like really fast). Every day I am pushed to learn something new about my colleagues (locally & regionally), our incredible global business and products also learning the new potential in myself - which is amazing!

I’m forever grateful that I’ve been given an opportunity to start my first step in my career in a multi-national company like NSG Group. I enjoy working in cross cultural working environment regardless the gaps we have in terms of age, religion and distance across the regions. So, here are some quick, early-morning-with-cup of tea thoughts of me being parts of NSG Group family.

• I have never seen in any company where there’s so many loyal employees who had been working for this company for more than 10 years. They are experienced, high level thinker but never once they said NO to me whenever I seek for their help in work.
• Because of the values that NSG Groups has such as “Respects others and unleash their potential” I always get an opportunity to bring ideas into action and see what are the things that works in my job.
• Working with experienced colleagues always make me think “Is my questions sound stupid or is it not important enough for me to ask?” but NEVER once my inquiries not being answered professionally. For those who do not know me, I have some kind of anxiety that my work was not perfect (haha) so, I'm always asking questions or opinions before I deliver something on my works. I know that we will always want to get things right but no matter what somehow things will still turn up to be wrong.
• Working in Manufacturing was not easy, you must deal with different background of people in your work from production lines, middle level management and even the top management, they’re all different. I must be inclusive in all wording used for my writings in memos/emails, the way I talk and how I approach them. I am surprised that within a year in this company, with guidance and coach from local and regional experienced colleagues I am now able to talk confidently even with people from top management.

• The first time I join this company, I have zero ideas on how glass industry works, so I talk to different level of people to understand the business. I’m passionately walk into the plant and see how the glass was produced. I choose to talk to people who directly involve with the production to understand the process and then talk to higher management to ask them about the overview of the business. That’s the reasons people known me as a girl with lots of questions in mind.

This job has challenged me and made me open my eyes even wider than before. I am learning new things daily, and now I repeatedly ask myself – is there anything I can do that can help my team and I in Communication. I may have less experience than others but I am passionate to learn much more things about from this business.

Finally, to all of my stunning colleagues in Malaysia (Sg Buloh and Johor Bahru) also all team across the globe that are reading this – thanks you for being such incredible teachers to me and I sincerely thankful for your help in everything from coaching, training and briefings on few task regardless of our distance across the region and always made me feel included in the team especially when I’m being the youngest and the less experience among all of you. I’m looking forward to see what we can do over the next year.
