2011..... What a year!

Not only the year of getting my first senior leadership role to manage a hotel but also the opportunity to meet and work under some (litterally) unbelievable people.

But it wans't all beautiful stories and smooth sailing. During these 5 years was a time a troubled water in my personal life too and one where I had to review some priorities. Blessed to have an incredible wife who's been on my side since the past 25 years.

The first three years spent in Mauritius were a blessing in disguise. When I accepted the job at the (then) Les Pavillons and was invited to visit the property and meet the Corporate team, I wasn't impressed at first. It was an average resort, although already very popular, in a remote part of the world where I was supposed to bring my family.

Little I knew it was going to be for me one of the best professional discovery of my career. Not only to be involved in a rebranding (what it is today LUX* Hotels & Resorts) but also working under world class hotelier Paul Jones, CEO of LUX* Collective and former of One & Only. He was (and still is) the ''light'' of LUX* and brought a dormant company to be one recognized around the world. To then being supported and learned from an old fashioned hotelier (Jean Pierre Auriol RIP) but one that really knew how to be a host, a leader, a father, an engineer, among many other things. Jean Pierre you will be dearly missed.

Then I met Barry Andrew, who came to support us during the rebranding but a true gentleman and fine F&B expert. Barry, I treasure our friendship.

And a long time friend, Nitesh Pandey, who selflessly, has been dedicating his life to hospitality and innovate, lead and succeed in each and every project he has been involved with. Nitesh, you are a diamond. Never forget that.

While transitioning to the St Regis, I also came across ''il Commendatore'' Bernard De Villele. Nothing less than the Holliwood version of Hotellerie. When Bernard is there the show begins.

And finally Damon Page, who showed me the light to leadership and General Management. He gave me the few tips needed to truly become a fully fledged GM. It was one of the toughest assignments at the St. Regis Mauritius (yes I know you told me) and one that made me stronger. Thank you for your trust and support Damon.

These six stars will always shine in my sky and I will always be grateful to Mauritius who was home (and the longest assignment) for five years.

Thank you everyone!

Till next time.
