This Year, Focus On Building Your Career Fitness
January marks a time when many people think about getting in shape and all of the fitness chains go into advertising overdrive. Gyms are at their most crowded, at least for a few weeks, at which point much of the New Year’s resolution fervor dies down and only the committed remain. But here’s a suggestion:?what if you took some of the money you’re willing to invest in your physical fitness and instead put it into investing in your career fitness?
Almost all of us, as adults, spend more of our waking hours than in any other activity, at least until we retire. Our careers form a big part of our identities, and they’re important to us – financially, intellectually, and emotionally. But few of us actually invest in our careers once we finish our initial schooling.
Our mission at PathWise is to help you do just that, whether you make an investment of time (as we offer an awful lot for free) or money. With a nod to?Spinal Tap?(and a bit of trepidation about the upcoming movie sequel),?here are 11 ways we can help you INVEST IN YOURSELF:
1. Coaching.?One of the best ways to invest in your career is by working with a coach, especially during those key periods in your journey. Our aim is to make coaching both accessible and affordable. We offer coaching at three price tiers – career coach, leadership coach, and executive coach – so you can pick what suits you best. For more info,?click here.
2. Assessments. We offer several career assessments to help you better figure out what makes you tick: Typefinder (similar to Myers-Briggs), DiSC, and Clifton Strengths (formerly StrengthsFinder). Interested??Click here.
3. Job search support.?We can help with resume development, LinkedIn profile reviews, interview preparation, mock interviews, and offer negotiation. Want more info? Click?here.
4. Articles.?We cover a different career topic each week. We just featured burnout and work-life balance, and up next are collaboration and personal brands. We also talk about what it’s like to work in a range of industry sectors and cover other topics that Google’s search data tells us are ones that many of you are thinking about
5. How to’s.?We have a growing list of ‘how to’ articles, such as how to ask for a promotion, prepare for an interview, or deal with a toxic work environment. These are available in a mix of written form and short 5-7 minute videos, narrated by PathWise’s Jennifer Velis (where she tries quite hard to hide her Boston accent).
6. Book summaries.?We’ve summarized many of the most popular books on careers, leadership, and personal development. These too are available in written form or as 15 minute videos, narrated by PathWise’s Daniela De Luca.
7. Podcasts.?Our weekly “Career Sessions, Career Lessons” podcasts feature a mix of authors and academics, C-level leaders, mid-level professionals, entrepreneurs and others, each covering their thoughts on specific career-related topics and their own journeys.
8. Coaches’ Corner videos. PathWise’s coaches share their thoughts in a monthly video series, covering everything from job searches to self-promotion.
9. Tools and templates.?This is a new offering, but one we’ll be significantly adding to over the coming months. Here you’ll find a range of frameworks, infographics, cheat sheets, worksheets, and templates to help you with day-to-day work and career management.
10. Programs and courses.?Coming this week, we’ll launch the first of our paid online programs, “Changing Course”. This initial offering focuses on making a job or career change, covering the necessary first step of reflecting on what you’re seeking, along with developing your personal brand and elevator pitch, managing the job search process, and making a strong start in whatever comes next. We’re also close to launching our paid short course series. These courses will focus on specific career-related topics. Our first offering will focus on personal branding, with networking and storytelling to follow. Interested? Let us know?here?and we’ll add you to the waiting list.
