A year of ChatGPT… Who is ahead and who is falling behind? ??

It’s been a year since ChatGPT made its way into the world

?And what a year it's been.

We started off using it as a simple replacement for Google and as a poet in our pocket writing Christmas cards in the style of Tennyson and song lyrics in the style of Taylor Swift.?

We experimented with getting it to write emails and to see if it could take away dull admin tasks.

And then we started to feel the fear ??

On one hand, we wondered if GenAI was coming for recruiter’s jobs.

And on the other, we saw candidates begin to use it to complete applications and auto-apply for roles without even knowing what they were applying for.

We found it could outperform the average candidate on traditional question-based psychometric assessments.?

As the year went on, TA teams started to become inundated with tonnes of text-based applications that looked the same, wooden video interviews scripted using ChatGPT, and in some cases, a seeming increase in the quality of applications in the early stages of the selection process, before a drop in quality at the final interview stage.?

Nothing could have prepared us for the tsunami that is candidate usage of GenAI. And it's not going anywhere anytime soon.

One year on, ChatGPT now has over 1.5 billion users per month.

And –– counter to popular opinion –– in many ways, the outlook for TA teams is actually bright ??

The disruptors of the world are cracking the ChatGPT code and paving the way for the rest of us to embrace its usage and use it as a forcing function to usher in changes we’ve been trying to make for years.

To finally scrap the CV. To make the transition to skills-based hiring. And to take away a lot of the grunt work we hated doing anyway.?

?And that’s exactly what Amanda Pleasant , Global Talent Sourcing Director, at JLL, is doing.?

Just like HelloFresh’s Yasar Ahmad, Amanda sees GenAI as a great catalyst for driving innovation in selection. She and her team –– who are responsible for filling 30,000 roles per year ––?are a force to be reckoned with.

In the short period of time it’s taken GenAI to become mainstream for TA teams, Amanda’s team have built their own internal JLL-GPT so they can spend less time on admin and more time on being human, used GenAI to usher in a new era of skills-first hiring, and used an innovative approach to driving the adoption of this new tech.

The result? They’ve redefined what productivity actually means for a TA team today.

So if you’re getting to the end of the year mulling over how you and your team are going to adapt to the age of GenAI in 2024 (because let’s face it… everything is a 2024 problem now), you won’t want to miss the latest episode of the TA Disruptors podcast ??
