The year behind (2022)

What a year. Today is December 21, and I’ll, as usual, make a retrospective about this year on its end. Looking globally, this year started awfully with a horrible war where Russia invaded Ukraine. I traveled so many times to Ukraine and have so many good friends, so I understand that personally. Looking at the suffering there, I'm embarrassed to write about myself and my good year. But each of us has its little world, and I will write about how I spent this year.

The most significant changes in the last 30 years appeared in September last year when I became the grandpa. And now my grandson is 15 months old and so intelligent… and most importantly, he enjoys listening to good old hard-rock music ??. I’m just looking at these new generations born in the 2020s as they will grow up in coexistence with AI. I think nobody can predict where their future intelligence and where their limit will be. I believe that in the next 30-40 years, this world will be changed more than in the previous 1000 years. Except for him, his father (my son ??) brought me the most joy this year. He is a perfect man… an amazing father, and a fantastic businessman. He is already a well-known speaker at regional events in the Balkan area. Still, this year he had his first lecture on Directions EMEA (being there together with him, both as speakers, is something priceless). And, of course, I’m so proud. I expect much more from him in the next period. And probably the best ages are when you don’t need to be primarily proud of yourself.

About me? I caught COVID-19 for the first time during my summer vacation, and maybe I was spoiled, but it was not the best experience. Besides, it was a good year. In my first year as a Program Manager for Business Central, I found so many places for learning and improvements, so I still have what to do in my 50s. Luckily, I have excellent colleagues there, and this is an honor to be part of this team. I’m happy we delivered some awesome features and expanded Business Central to many new regions, but I’m happiest because I know what I need to do to improve myself. But I enjoy my job… actually it is not a job when you like it and enjoy working. Now I’m traveling much less for business, and spending more time with my family feels good. And, of course, my wife and I have much more time to travel for pleasure.

New colleagues, new friends, new experiences, new challenges, new books, new… I hope I’ll have some brand new news, but probably in the next 3 or 4 years. And before I finish, what a mess with Twitter. I took a photo this spring in front of Twitter HQ and wrote - I hope this picture will not have a name, “It was Twitter,” but it seems I was wrong ?.

I hope the world will be a better place to live next year and in many other years, and I wish you at least the same good year as I had… and, of course, happy holidays.
