As an Automotive Collision Repair Technician, you will play a critical role in diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing a wide range of vehicles, including both traditional non-electric vehicles and technologically advanced electric vehicles. You will be responsible for conducting bodywork and collision repairs on various materials, including plastics and metals while ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the vehicles. In this rapidly evolving automotive industry, this position requires a strong understanding of digital information and communication platforms, traditional automotive systems, proficiency in handling complex electronic and computerized components unique to EVs, as well as expertise in 3D printing, automation, and robotics control skills. Your versatility and ability to adapt to different vehicle types will be essential for excelling in this role.

Responsibilities and Tasks

  • Diagnose and Troubleshoot Vehicle Systems: Utilize advanced diagnostic tools and software to identify issues in electronic, electrical, and mechanical systems, including engine control units, powertrains, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), and connected car technology for both electric and non-electric vehicles.
  • Perform Bodywork and Collision Repairs: Assess and repair vehicle bodies damaged due to collisions, accidents, or general wear and tear. This includes repairing dents, scratches, and other cosmetic damages, as well as replacing damaged panels and parts.
  • Work with Advanced Materials: Demonstrate proficiency in working with various materials used in modern vehicles, such as aluminum, carbon fiber, and high-strength steel, and advanced plastics, while employing automation and robotics control skills for efficient and accurate repairs.
  • Safely Handle High-Voltage Systems: Demonstrate expertise in safely handling high-voltage components and systems in electric vehicles, adhering to strict safety protocols to protect yourself, team members, and the environment during repairs and maintenance.
  • Conduct Structural Repairs: Utilize specialized robotic equipment to perform precise structural repairs, ensuring proper alignment and integrity of vehicle frames and structures affected by collisions for both electric and non-electric vehicles.
  • Utilize 3D Printing for Collision Repairs: Leverage 3D printing technology for both plastic and metals to manufacture specialized parts and components required for repairs or replacement parts.
  • Utilize Automation and Robotics Control Skills: Operate and maintain robotic systems and automation equipment utilized in vehicle diagnostics, repairs, and assembly processes for both electric and non-electric vehicles. This includes programming, calibrating, and troubleshooting robotic systems to improve repair efficiency and accuracy.
  • Perform Battery System Repairs and Replacements: Conduct repairs on electric vehicle battery systems, addressing issues like cell degradation, cooling systems, and managing proper disposal and recycling procedures for damaged batteries.
  • Conduct Electric Drivetrain Maintenance: Perform regular maintenance and inspections on electric drivetrains in electric vehicles to ensure optimal performance and efficiency of the vehicle's powertrain.
  • Integrate Advanced Software Updates: Familiarity with updating and calibrating advanced software systems in electric vehicles, such as Over-The-Air (OTA) updates and software patches to improve vehicle performance and safety features.
  • Stay Abreast of EV Charging Infrastructure: Keep updated on electric vehicle charging technologies and infrastructure to assist customers with charging-related queries and to address potential charging system issues.
  • Perform Repairs and Maintenance: Execute necessary repairs and maintenance tasks on both electric and non-electric vehicles, including engine and transmission overhauls, ADAS calibration, and software updates, utilizing automated diagnostic tools and systems.
  • Stay Updated on Emerging Technologies: Continuously update knowledge of new technologies, tools, and techniques through training programs, workshops, and research, to stay at the forefront of the rapidly evolving automotive industry and advancements.
  • Analyze Technical Data: Interpret technical data, service bulletins, and repair manuals to efficiently troubleshoot issues and recommend appropriate repair procedures.
  • Collaborate with Engineering and R&D Teams: Provide valuable feedback and insights to engineering and research teams regarding common issues, potential improvements, and emerging trends observed during repair and maintenance procedures involving automation.
  • Communication: Effectively communicate with estimators, managers, and customers, explaining complex technical and body repair issues in a clear and understandable manner, discussing repair options, and providing accurate cost estimates.
  • Maintain Clean and Organized Workspaces: Keep repair bays, tools, and equipment clean, organized, and in good working condition to ensure a safe and efficient working environment, for both electric and non-electric vehicles.
  • Adhere to Safety Standards: Comply with safety regulations, both for personal safety and vehicle safety, when operating diagnostic tools, repairing vehicles, handling hazardous materials, and working with electric vehicle systems.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensure that all repairs, both mechanical and body-related, performed with the aid of automation and robotics, meet high-quality standards, conducting post-repair inspections to confirm proper functionality and appearance.



Qualifications and Skills:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical certifications and vocational training in automotive technology, collision repair, and the use of 3D printing or automation/robotics control are preferred.
  • Proven experience as an automotive repair technician, with expertise in electric vehicle systems, electronics, body repair, plastics, and automation/robotics control.
  • Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and software specifically designed for electric vehicles, including scanning tools, oscilloscopes, and specialized EV diagnostic software, as well as programming and operating robotic systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex technical and body repair issues efficiently in electric vehicles.
  • Familiarity with emerging electric vehicle technologies and trends, including electric drivetrains, battery technology, connected cars, and autonomous driving systems.
  • Experience in conducting bodywork and collision repairs on electric vehicles, including structural repairs and advanced materials like new advanced plastics.
  • Excellent communication skills to interact with customers and collaborate effectively with team members, engineering, and other departments.
  • Adherence to safety protocols and guidelines for handling high-voltage systems and hazardous materials unique to electric vehicles.
