The iPhone kickstarted the Golden Age of Mobile. This is Year 2010 for Remote.

This is Year 2010 for Remote

We're lucky living in an era with 2 megatrends emerging at the same time: Remote and Crypto. However, unlike crypto still in its infancy where it's akin to Internet's 1996, Remote has crossed the chasm and is ready for mainstream adoption.

Similar to how mobile exploded in the 2010s, the 2020s will be remembered in history as the Remote Decade.

Marc Andreessen wrote in his recent survey Technology Saves the World that remote is ...

"... perhaps the most important thing that’s happened in my lifetime, a consequence of the internet that’s maybe even more important than the internet." - Marc Andreessen

Well, it’s one thing for me or other remote founders to have such a public display of enthusiasm for remote (because that's what we do all day anyway). But this is @pmarca - he practically invented the internet. We've been talking about remote for ages now, but this time it feels different.

What opportunities will be possible with the 2nd or 3rd order effects of this seismic shift? The idea of Uber was conceived 2 years after the first iPhone. Instagram 3 years. DoorDash 7 years. It’d take a while for founders to figure this out.

There are already early winners - Hopin, Deel, just to name a few. But from the macro-level the entire industry is just getting started. What Balaji Srinivasan is doing with 1729.com is very interesting and it's a cross-section between remote and crypto.

It's also interesting to watch the parallels between Crypto and Remote here. Both have the altruistic and pure power to create an open, equal opportunity for every human being in the world. However, the crypto world just seems louder. #Remote probably could use a Jack Malls, a Pomp?

When remote wins, billions of people's lives will be dramatically and positively impacted. I feel proud telling my daughter that her father wakes up every day and stares at a laptop to make the world a better place for billions of people.
