YCP Mentor Notes: Upskill Your Interview Prep with ChatGPT

In my last two Mentor Notes, I told you I’ve been using ChatGPT to figure out how to get it to help you become irresistible to cybersecurity hiring managers.

Two weeks ago, I showed you how to prompt ChatGPT to write a killer summary statement to put at the top of your resume when applying for the job you want.

And before that, I showed you how to take a job description and, using a prompt to focus ChatGPT, we got back a killer list of the top five keywords and three major themes.

Now we’re going to get ChatGPT to rate and improve your interviewing skills by coaching you with one question at a time.

And, because I’ve observed that people struggle the most with the behavioral questions, as opposed to the technical ones, that’s what I’m going to focus on here.

Describing the process I have in mind for you would be too wordy for a Mentor Note. And, it would really help if you could see some of the things I want you to do. So, I found an excellent 6-minute video on YouTube that I want you to watch and use as a step-by-step guide.

NOTE: This video was released under the “Creative Commons Attribution license (reuse allowed)” so I want to thank “AI In A Minute”, aka Curtis Pyke, for making and publishing “Ace Your STAR-Based Job Interview with ChatGPT: A Step-by-Step Guide.”

Before I give you the URL, here are just a few things to keep in mind:

  1. You’ll need a ChatGPT account and the free version will work fine.
  2. You’ll need to enter some prompts to make sure that ChatGPT is focused on the task at hand.
  3. Here’s prompt #1, just like in the video: “Explain the STAR interview method to me in detail.”
  4. Here’s a modified prompt #2 that’s more on target for the cybersecurity profession and for this exercise: “I am applying for a [job title] position at [employer]. Please provide me with a series of STAR interview questions, one at a time, that are appropriate for the cybersecurity position I’m applying for. For each question you ask, I’ll type in my response. Once I’ve submitted my response, please grade my answer and provide me with tips for improving my grade. Then ask me if I want to repeat this process with a new question.”
  5. When you practice responding to interview questions, you have to practice talking in your normal voice at a conversational volume. Silent practice isn’t effective. The video will show you how to use “voice typing” in Google Docs so you can speak your answer and then copy/paste the text into ChatGPT.

OK, are you ready to watch the video? Click HERE .

Then tell me what happened in the comments below and how far you took it.

What did you learn?

I read every comment that you post!
