YCP Mentor Notes: Cloud Resume Challenge
In the past, I’ve recommended building a home computer lab in order to provide yourself with the opportunity to gain hands-on IT and cybersecurity skills.
The knowledge you gain from getting the hardware, plugging it all in, and configuring network services forms the bedrock for a lot of cybersecurity jobs.
It's still not a bad idea. But, cloud is eating the world, so now I want to show you a better option.
I want you to do the free 16-step “Cloud Resume Challenge”.
I’m super impressed by this hands-on project designed by Forrest Brazeal to help you bridge the gap from wherever you are now to a meaningful cloud certification and a cybersecurity job in a cloud computing environment.
The Challenge incorporates many of the skills that real cloud and DevSecOps engineers use in their daily work.
Plus! There are cybersecurity-specific lessons integrated right into the Challenge.
You can choose AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud-specific instructions.
Plan on spending about 40 hours over six weeks to get through it all.
This challenge will be a struggle for most people, but that’s what makes it a wonderful, hands-on learning opportunity without the noise and heat from a stack of hardware sitting in the corner.
You’ll find the URL to the Challenge below.
I also want to mention two other related resources, one free and one for a small cost.
There’s an excellent video walk-through series on YouTube by Lou Bichard. Watch the first video to get yourself going. But only look at the others when you really need a nudge in the right direction.
I’ve also put this URL below.
There’s also a more thorough e-book version of the Challenge for about $25 USD.
And, here’s something very cool about the book! The author supports purchasing power parity. For example, if you're located in Philippines, the price has been discounted by 60% to $9.20 USD.
Are you going to do this? Hit comment and tell me.
I read every comment you post!
