The phrase "fiat lux" is Latin for "Let there be light", which comes from the third verse of the Book of Genesis. It is appropriate that Justin Griffin named his law firm, Fiat Lux Law Firm as he focuses on bringing light to the legal industry by being available, predictable, and customer focused.

Justin and I are members of the Elite BNI Chapter which meets on Tuesday Mornings, at 7:30 AM. We are proudly hosted within the Richmond Association of REALTORS building, located 8975 Three Chopt Rd, Henrico, VA 23229.

In building a professional relationship with Justin, I have witnessed his sincerity and desire to serve. His desire is to be seen as a lawyer that is human, who has a soul, and shares in the frustration that comes with legal compliance. He practices in the areas of small business, churches, non-profits, and estate planning. 

Legal Counsel that Cares About the Church

Justin is on a mission to help keep churches out of the courtroom, so they can focus on ministry. He founded his practice on Faith, which is evident by his "Faith In Practice" Statement, which reads:

At Fiat Lux Law we believe that as Christ-followers we are called to glorify God wherever we may find ourselves, and we want to be faithful to that in our practice of the law. We believe that through meeting the legal needs of people we have the opportunity to be His hands and feet by showing His love to others at those places where law and life intersect. We strive to serve our clients in a way that shows that God loves them and has plans for their life.

His firm is dedicated to helping the church and the Christian community. Contrary to a common belief, churches are not completely exempt from government regulation. Churches have to worry about many unique issues relating to contributions, clergy pay, employees, and children's ministry liability. This can get complicated, time-consuming, and frustrating quickly. As a Christian law firm, Fiat Lux Law Firm invest time on building lasting relationships with local churches, so that he can help navigate them through any legal issue.

Estate Planning, An Untapped Tool

According to a study conducted by LifeWay Research, a Nashville, TN based 501(c)(3) religious nonprofit organization that helps Christian ministries impact lives by conducting custom research projects; the majority of pastors in the Southern Baptist Convention believe Christians should include a legacy gift to a ministry or church, but 86 percent of SBC churches provide no assistance to their congregation to help with estate planning. This is where Justin comes in.

Justin seeks to educate ministers and ministries on the importance of Estate Planning, which begins with a will or living trust. He conducts educational workshops at the request of a ministry and provides additional resources for small businesses and nonprofit organizations.

Part Lawyer, Part Accountant, Part Entrepreneur

In addition to being an attorney, Justin has a degree in accounting, has worked in IT, and has started his own non-profit. Justin has written a book on starting a business in Virginia (The DIY Entrepreneur's How to Start a Business in Virginia). He focuses his time and energies on the laws applicable to churches, small business, and estate planning. Justin's life outside of the law consists of spending time with his wife, his non-profit that promotes financial education for single parents, working on projects outside, and he is an avid bowler.  

In 2016, Justin was featured as the legal educator for the Certified Church Administrator certification program. 

Educational Background

Justin earned his law degree from the University of Richmond School of Law in 2014, where he was active as a member of the Moot Court Board, Treasurer of the Client Counseling and Negotiation Board and member of the Christian Law Fellowship.

In 2011, Justin graduated from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting; Information Management Collateral and Minor in Economics.
