Yazd! Oh lovely Yazd!
It would have had to happen, the historic heart of Yazd has been recognized as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. We feel proud of our connection with the city and our determination to put it prominently within our tours and our tireless work in introducing it to our guests and travellers.
This magnificent jewel on the edge of the central desert (Kavir Markazi) dates back to some 5000 years ago. Originally known as Ysatis, the city is an important Zoroastrian settlement, retaining its prominence within the context of a predominantly Islamic country.
Yazd has adapted to its desert surroundings by developing a unique architectural style. The city boasts some of the most magnificent mosques, public buildings and private houses in Iran and the old residential districts have retained their ancient charm with covered walkways.
Yazd is an important textile centre and its silk weaves have been prized for many centuries. The traditional intricate hand-woven fabrics, with their myriad of colours and pattern are still produced and are presented in the ancient covered bazaar.
The elaborate water management technology (Kareez) going back generations with its ingenious underground system of interconnecting wells has enabled the studious and hard-working people of Yazd to grow some of the best agricultural produce anywhere in Iran.
Yazd also offers a selection of very sophisticated and unique confectionery. These renowned sweets are highly regarded across the country.

7 年Absolutely stunning. Iran has a remarkable record of retaining Heritage sites in tact. It is truly like visiting a country that is a museum unto itself. One day, when visa restrictions are relaxed again, I will return!
