THE ‘YAY’ AND ‘NAY’ OF RESUME-BUILDING
When a #recruiter comes across a well-crafted resume that showcases your relevant skills, experience and achievements, it grabs their attention and increases your chances of getting your foot in the door. Here are some important aspects that recruiters tend to look out for in a #resume.
WHAT YOUR RESUME NEEDS
Your resume should have a clean and organised layout that allows for easy reading and navigation.
The inclusion of targeted keywords, and highlighting relevant experience and accomplishments will shed more insight about you to the recruiter.
Experience and accomplishments aside, recruiters also want to know if the work you create can bring about desirable results to the organisation, so don’t forget to highlight the impact of your work along with measurable outcomes.
Separate the different sections like education, work experience, skills, and certifications clearly so that it makes for easy reading.
Proper usage of strong action verbs and specific terminologies shows that you are well acquainted with the industry of the company that you are applying to.
Your resume should also be tailored to align with the specific #jobrequirements and, most importantly, company culture to show that you are a good fit for the role and the company.
On the contrary, there are some equally important aspects of a resume that you should AVOID if you don’t want to disappoint recruiters.

WHAT YOUR RESUME DOESN’T NEED
It’s best to spare your recruiter the excessive details or experiences that are not applicable to the position you are applying to.
By failing to proofread or edit the resume for mistakes, you are actually setting yourself up for failure.
Recruiters want to know more about your specific achievements and how your previous work has created an impact. So, only listing job responsibilities won’t suffice.
The last thing you want is your resume to look unprofessional because of inconsistencies in fonts, styles or spacing.
Unless specifically requested, you should not provide excessive information that exceeds two pages. The golden rule here is less is more.
Using generic phrases and buzzwords are fine. But do provide specific examples and details to back them up. If not, don’t use them at all.
We hope the above mentioned tips were useful to you. Also, do take note that preferences may differ among different recruiters and industries. So it’s important to research and tailor your resume to suit each specific job opportunity to maximise its effectiveness.?
