Yao Selorm, Co-founder At Strictly Social Africa, Is Redefining Social Interaction for Young Africans.

Yao Selorm wears many hats—he's not just the co-founder of Strictly Social Africa, but also works as the Employer Partners Strategist Lead at Blossom Academy. Selorm's path to influencing the social fabric of young Africans is not one defined solely by his entrepreneurial ventures, but also by his innate passion for empowering others.

Some of Yao Selorm's fondest childhood memories include playing football with his neighborhood friends, growing up in a compound house, and cherishing the unity and bonding within his family. Additionally, he fondly recalls playing games like PES and Konami, which brought joy and entertainment during his formative years.

The idea for Strictly Social Africa originated during Yao Selorm's tenure as a campus lead for Code57 at the University of Ghana. Observing communication challenges among some members, he recognized the need for intervention. Taking proactive steps, he invited Cecil Ato, now co-founder of Strictly Social Africa, to conduct a texting 101 session. Witnessing tangible improvements in members' texting patterns following the session, Selorm and Ato realized the potential to address broader social interaction issues. This moment spurred the birth of Strictly Social Africa, a platform aimed at enhancing social skills among young Africans.

Strictly Social Africa offers a range of initiatives aimed at enhancing social interaction and improving the overall quality of life for its audience:

1.Blogs: Their website, strictlysocialafrica.com, hosts blog posts covering topics such as communication, networking, and strategies to enhance social skills

2. YouTube Show: Through their YouTube channel, Strictly Social Africa endeavors to address the discomfort often associated with first dates and meeting new people. The show features innovative formats such as blind date episodes and paper talks, providing entertaining yet educational content. Additionally, volunteers are coached on effective listening and communication techniques, empowering them to engage more confidently in social settings.

3. Hangout Sessions: Strictly Social Africa organizes hangout sessions designed to cultivate a vibrant social community. These sessions offer participants the opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals in a relaxed and inclusive environment, fostering genuine friendships and social bonds.

While Strictly Social Africa has been fortunate to encounter minimal challenges, a significant challenge is the prevalent busyness among their team members. Many individuals find it challenging to dedicate time to certain activities, affecting participation in Strictly Social Africa's initiatives. Also, like many startups, Strictly Social Africa faces financial challenges that limit the extent of their creative content production, particularly tailored for the Gen Z audience.?

Despite these challenges, the team remains resilient and proactive in overcoming them.?

Strictly Social Africa has achieved some impressive things. They have helped people communicate better, making conversations clearer and more meaningful. Their platform has also brought people together, helping them form strong friendships and support networks. They have taught people how to create content, like videos and posts, so they can share their stories and ideas confidently. Also, members have started making their own podcasts, with 3 seasons already produced. With all these, it is no surprise their hard work hasn't gone unnoticed—they have won lots of awards, showing how much they have contributed to the community.

There are lots of amazing projects in the works. From In-house podcasts, to talent factory initiatives, a cool new website and a fresh office space, they're ready to make an even bigger impact.?

For aspiring entrepreneurs, Selorm offers invaluable advice distilled from his own journey: First and foremost, take action and start working on your ideas, rallying others to support your vision. Develop a comprehensive content and business plan to guide you towards success. Stay humble and be willing to learn from those who have already achieved what you're striving for. Surround yourself with a supportive tribe of individuals who share your passion and can offer guidance and encouragement. Gain a deep understanding of your industry by studying what makes other businesses successful. Financially, consider working a regular job while you build your business, and start saving early to invest in your venture. Lastly, never underestimate the power of prayer.?

In closing, Selorm offers these parting words:?
