The Yamaha LL16

The Yamaha LL16

Could be the best value guitar at any price?

I owned one of these a few years ago, bought for a song on eBay and really enjoyed it. As is my want though I ended up selling it. Then when Covid began a local guitar store was selling these at a huge discount so I bought another one.

The new Yamaha LL16 ARE was like the previous one but updated (and improved) with a torrified top (the wood had been baked), flamed maple bindings and an Baggs pickup.

Whilst the certainly wasn't the best guitar I owned it was absolutely INCREDIBLE value for money. Solid rosewood back and sides, had assembled, incredible quality of fit and finish (as you would have expected of a Japanese product) and a really great sounding instrument.

This instrument is perhaps best recognised as what was played by Bert Jansch throughout his career but many other well known guitarists played them at sone point including Paul Simon, James Taylor and Bob Dylan.

Premium woods, great design, beautiful finish all contribute to make this THE stand-out guitar in the sub £1000 price category.

So, if you are int he market for a really good instrument that won't break the bank...this could be it!

So here's a little snippet of what it sounds like.

I hope you enjoyed this week's journey in to acoustic guitars...

This is great! I worked for Yamaha Music and own a F150 steel string and an older than god G-50 classical gut string. I own a Fender streel string another weird classical guitar I know nothing about but it is a beautiful. Yamaha has a great reputation for producing work horse instruments. Their pianos are so clean others manufactures tried to copy them without much success. Attached is a picture of John Ellison who wrote Grand Funk's monster song "Some kind of wonderful" I have met John over and over again. After playing my guitar he signed it.

One of my favourite go-to acoustics in my own stable is my Yamaha F720SL - lefty of course!....I find it has a fuller tone than some of my others...(incl. my Epiphone Hound Dog or my Ovation Legend)

Thank you, Adam. Phenomenal review of an equally phenomenal instrument. Truly appreciate any discussion that refrains from over emphasizing an acoustic’s rosewood construction (ala the Martin D-28) or obsessing over its abalone inlay, which of course has zero to do with this guitar’s incredible sound! You hit what genuinely should be the key point of every article about a musical instrument: How does it sound? The Internet is flooded nowadays with articles about guitars, old and new, that completely fail in this regard. How does the guitar sound? (i.e., Why should I care?) Thanks again!
