Yahoo Build It Forward

At #YahooBuildItForward today, we previewed upcoming innovations which will transform how people connect with what they love. Our products will be more personal and customizable, and we’ve built them on top of our innovative technology and trusted content to deliver what matters to you across your passions. We launched Yahoo Plus, a subscription platform across Fantasy, Finance, Mail and more; Draft Together, a live video chat feature allowing friends to draft together, virtually; our immersive partnership for New York Fashion Week with the iconic fashion designer Rebecca Minkoff; In The Know Parenting and Cooking verticals, and a preview of our reimagined Yahoo consumer experience and Yahoo Shops. We’re going in big on commerce, and committing to diversity as part of that process, with a pledge to have at least 15% of merchants be Black-owned businesses.

But beyond what we do, it’s how we do it. Not only was our #YahooBuildItForward event created with accessibility at its core (we had audio description, closed captioning, ASL & text-only alternatives) but also we announced that by April 1, 100% of new user-facing video, now including partner content, that is streamed on our own video players will be closed-caption. This is a huge step towards our mission to be the most inclusive scaled digital platform in the industry, and we are furthering our advocacy efforts by donating $5 million in media to a number of disability organizations, including the National Association of the Deaf, the American Council of the Blind, and the American Association of People with Disabilities.

These innovations are a testament to our purpose and mission to create the networks that move the world forward by connecting people to their passions -- and giving them opportunities to transact on them. Kudos to Verizon and GG for CC on all videos! Good for ALL: 1) media accessibility for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing & 2) reading practice/improvement & language learning for the hearing. TV and streaming in India moving in this direction and embracing Same Language Subtitling (SLS).
