Ya girl's got a promotion!

Ya girl's got a promotion!

I want to change the world and know it sounds wild. I'm a Gemini. I'm optimistic and realistic. So if I can't take on all the issues in the world, how might I impact my community, my neighborhood, my family?

Joining New Relic in 2017, I came in with a mission to help more people like me tap in to the industry that was growing so fast and changing the face of the Bay Area and the world. I love my home, I wanted to be able to afford to live and thrive here. I want more people from historically marginalized communities to know that history can be changed, one opportunity at a time. It's the ripple effect that motivates me. The existential impact that isn't felt or seen right away but over time it is systemically cascading compound changes. That generational wealth type vibe.

Through years of working in talent acquisition, social impact and leading an ERG, it has been a privilege to be in an environment where mistakes can happen, creative opportunities are supported, my professional development is challenged for growth, and yet my mission to help people has gotten clearer. I want to help people tap in to opportunities in tech so they can afford to live and thrive in their communities globally.

My first manager asked me in the beginning, "What do you want to do in your career? How can we get you there at New Relic?"

At the time, I boldly let him know that I didn't see the trajectory. What I wanted didn't exist at New Relic. YET. There were so many times I walked into the elevators at New Relic and thought "I can't believe I work here!" Somedays this was with excitement. Other days with frustration. Today it's with so much gratitude.

It was been a journey here, with incredible mentors and opportunities. Yet, a number of times I have tried to leave before it was time to leave. I thought I had exhausted all my options. But I was surprised and recognize a deeper appreciation for this company that has take care of me, my family, my community. A place where I feel valued for more than my work, but my opinion, my thoughts, my whole self.

So for now...

I'm so proud that after years of learning and developing my career, building relationships and programs across teams, I'll be officially a part of the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion team as a DEI Manager for Recruitment. A role that has not existed before until now. The company I first joined, is not the company we are today. The industry I once was afraid to join and felt alien to me, is not the same anymore. I'm ready for this next pivot, I've always been.

Big thanks truly to all the Relics of Color across the globe for motivating me in so many ways. This is for us!
