Wireless InSite provides a realistic assessment of radar altimeter interference due to emissions from 5G base stations along a landing approach to runway 27L of Chicago O’Hare International Airport.

The deployment of 5G service using C-band spectrum around airports in the US has been intensely examined due to concerns about interference of base station emissions with radar altimeters on commercial aircraft. Detailed and realistic propagation analysis of 5G emissions is critical for identifying any possible conditions that might produce concerning levels of interference during a landing approach.

In this whitepaper, we use Wireless InSite to simulate the level of interference received at the radar altimeter input port of a landing aircraft due to emissions from 5G base stations that are in the vicinity of the approach to runway 27L at Chicago O’Hare International Airport. The simulation includes a multipath analysis and models interactions with terrain and building structures which redirect energy toward the radar altimeter antenna.

Introduction to XFdtd’s Transient EM/Co-Simulation

XFdtd simulates the electrostatic discharge (ESD) testing process, allowing engineers to pinpoint components susceptible to ESD damage and optimize ESD mitigation prior to trial-and-error testing on a physical prototype. This video tour steps through this feature and how it is utilized in XF to preemptively resolve ESD vulnerabilities and prevent future certification setbacks.
