Wyoming Hyperscale: The Baby Crocodile of the Data Center Industry
The data center industry is a competitive one, with new players hatching all the time. One of the most promising new players: Wyoming Hyperscale.
We are a three-year old company with a lot to offer. We're located in Wyoming, which offers strategic advantages, given the efficient connectivity and low-latency access to major metropolitan areas across the country at a point of convergence of multiple long-haul fiber networks and a new “on-ramp” with 400G upgradeable connectivity – the highest capacity currently available. Our preeminent design and engineering team has unparalleled?experience in liquid cooling + hyperscale + long-haul fiber network operations, with no “legacy ?technology overhang”, and a culture that makes market pivots lightning fast.
Wyoming also offers abundant energy resources leading to low-cost electric power: Wyoming has vast reserves of coal, natural gas. And vast untapped renewable wind, and solar potential. We are tapping stranded existing wind generation, directly from the switchgear where it joins the grid. And, our baseload will soon be decarbonized by TerraPower’s advanced nuclear reactor project. An “All The Above” energy strategy by the State will perpetuate the advantage for tenants for the foreseeable future. We also enjoy a favorable, business-friendly regulatory environment in Wyoming and Uinta County. Reduced bureaucratic hurdles, rational County fire and building codes, tax exemptions, low property taxes and zero income taxes for the company and for operations employees foster sustainable economic ecosystem development.
We are also close to the existing Salt Lake City data center markets, the 'Silicon Slopes' across Salt Lake County and Utah County, Hill Air Force Base in Ogden, and the NSA’s ‘Bumblehive’. We're even closer (50 miles) to Park City, where we expect many employees would like to live because of its appeal as a world-renowned resort area, stemming from its stunning natural beauty, abundant outdoor recreational activities, high quality of life, vibrant cultural scene, strong sense of community, proximity to a major international airport, and emphasis on health and wellness.
But what really sets us apart is its focus on innovation. The company is committed to using the latest technologies to build the most efficient and scalable data center profit ecosystems. This commitment to innovation has made Wyoming Hyperscale a target as an innovation partner. Our facility liquid-cooled infrastructure and data hall workload combination options are drastically more efficient than traditional air-cooling, which will lead to significant tenant cost savings?for high-density, high-bandwidth applications like AI, machine learning, and high-performance computing, at a 120-megawatt scale.
In the data center industry, size and scale are often seen as advantages. However, Wyoming Hyperscale is proof that this is not always the case. The company is relatively small and agile, which gives it the ability to adapt to change more quickly than its larger competitors.
We see ourselves as a baby African river delta saltwater crocodile. These crocodiles are small and agile, which makes them very dangerous. They can accelerate more quickly and change direction more suddenly than their larger counterparts. At some point, the additional size and weight of an adult crocodile fails to deliver additional killing power but does have the effect of slowing him down.
In the same way, Wyoming Hyperscale is a small and agile company that is able to adapt to change more quickly than its larger competitors. This makes the company a dangerous threat to the status quo, with a founder who has a bit of a reputation as a social media troll, albeit a playful one.
If you are a mature business in the data center industry, you should not underestimate us, and the other emerging companies like us. We are a force to be reckoned with, and it is only a matter of time before we collectively make a big impact on the emerging liquid-cooled data center industry.

It is clear to us that the large players largely neglected to start designing, engineering, and building hyperscale capacity for the advent of AI with the requisite level of urgency, along with concrete plans for the structural changes that will be required to modify existing data center infrastructure for the Age of AI. This change was best summarized recently by Jensen Huang, CEO of NVIDIA: "The computer industry is going through two simultaneous transitions — accelerated computing and generative AI,” said Huang. "A trillion dollars of installed global data center infrastructure will transition from general purpose to accelerated computing as companies race to apply generative AI into every product, service and business process."
Now, we'll transition. This article is not all about us. So, what can mature businesses do to protect themselves from Wyoming Hyperscale and other startups?
Here are a few tips:
If mature businesses can execute well on these points, they will be well-positioned to defend themselves from Wyoming Hyperscale and other startups.
But what if you are a startup, like us?
If you are a startup, you should use your size and agility to your advantage. Be aggressive and take risks. Don't be afraid to challenge the status quo.
The data center industry is a great place for startups to succeed. The industry is growing rapidly, and there are many opportunities for new players.
If you are a startup, don't be afraid to dream big. With hard work and determination, and the right focus, you can achieve anything.
