WWTW Celebrates 12 Months In North East

This month Walking With The Wounded North East celebrates its 1st Year Anniversary. In February 2019 Walking With The Wounded began recruiting a support team of staff to deliver welfare, employment and serious stress support to North East ex-military personnel.

Working in partnership with Gateshead Council and the Armed Forces Outreach Service we went operational in June 2019 and over the past 12 months, we have supported our North East beneficiaries to gain independence and sustainable lives through our various programmes

During this period, we have implemented other support programmes in the regions such as the Northern CareCoordination Partnership (NCCP) and Positives Pathways in partnership with the Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust . We have also built up a wide network of Social and Welfare support partners.

Since we launched in June 2019, we have supported over 165 beneficiaries and family members. We have received referrals from our partners at the NHS, Gateshead Council, Armed Forces Outreach Service, AF and V launchpad, Project Nova, SSAFA, Citizens Advice and many more.

As a client first organisation, we continued to take referrals and delivered outcomes during the COVID–19 pandemic as we dealt with social isolation, domestic violence, financial issues, food and fuel poverty and housing and unemployment. Despite the fact that the entire organisation, including the North East team moved to remote working, we have continued to deliver support on a daily basis and we have found new ways to help those who served. For example, our team carried out 350 welfare calls to our clients to ensure they had the support they needed.

Our relationships with regional partners have been exceptional and the North East desire to support our ex-military community has ensured that our beneficiaries receive the best support possible.

Our success is down to our regional partners. Without these key relationships, we would not be able to offer the high-level of care that we currently do. We are looking forward to developing further relationships with other organisations and partners in the coming months.

We have achieved a phenomenal amount in the last year, however, there is still so much to do. Going forward, we are looking forward to expanding our regional footprint and regional relationships in order to deliver our close support to North East ex-military personnel and their families.
