WWF - Regulating Underwater Noise

Swedish ecologist and bio acoustician Mathias Anderson researches underwater noise and advises pile driving is one of the disruptive, in this case impact hammering - striking the tops of piles per second.

He states that:

  • Pile driving is required to install infrastructure to the sea bed such as wind turbines, jacket piles.
  • Depending on the project, it can take up to 5,000 strikes per pile.
  • The noise can reach levels high enough to disturb, injure or even kill some marine animals.
  • Some countries are more developed than others regulating noise pollution.
  • It costs money to produce quieter methods, the government must be willing to pay to mitigate noise pollution.

Pilequip Australia alongside Dieseko Group Netherlands understand the effects of traditional pile driving techniques via the use of an impact hammer. Our technology turns a different approach with Vibratory technique, allowing for piles to be driven by vibration. This slashes noise pollution in more then half.
