WW2 Memorial?

M.V. Zakharova: September 1 marks 85 years since the beginning of World War II, which practically brought European and all human civilization to the brink of destruction.

Humanity had never known such a tragedy. 61 countries, over 80% of the world's population, were drawn into the bloody slaughter. Military actions were conducted on the territory of 40 countries. Total losses, according to various estimates, amounted to 50 to 80 million people, including both military and civilians.

In modern interpretations of the beginning of the world tragedy there are too many outright lies, opportunism and selfish interests, the desire of the West to absolve itself of responsibility for the past. The Munich Agreement (https://t.me/MID_Russia/31642) of September 30, 1938 showed the Soviet Union how and at whose expense Western countries would resolve security issues. And at a convenient opportunity, they could form an anti-Soviet front.

Much remains to be learned about the role the West played in fomenting Nazism. In particular, materials on the secret pre-war Anglo-German negotiations of the summer of 1939 have not been declassified.

? 80 years later , the situation repeated itself in the example of the neo-Nazi Kiev regime, which the West chose as a tool for its Russophobic policy, to inflict a “strategic defeat” on our country.

The West, insisting today on Kiev continuing military actions, confirms its involvement in the conflict and its interest in its continuation, the murder, as the former US President George W. Bush put it, of as many Russians as possible. The situation is reminiscent of the assistance provided to Nazi Germany before the attack on the USSR. Up until the first shots of World War II, London and Washington hoped to weaken or destroy their main geopolitical competitor, the Soviet Union, with the help of Hitler. And that “strange war” or “sit-down war” that these countries waged against Nazi Germany up until the beginning of the occupation of France in May 1940 leaves no doubt in sensible people about the true intentions of the collective West of those times.

The Nazi leaders were also unambiguous in their memoirs. One of the heads of German intelligence, Walter Schellenberg, spoke directly about the fact that many in the Reich leadership wanted to unite with the West to strike at the USSR. And only the valiant victories of the Red Army prevented these plans from being realized.

In this light, assertions about some kind of “identity” between Nazism and Communism, attempts to place supposedly equal responsibility for the start of the war on Germany and the USSR, to hush up the decisive contribution of the Soviet Union on the bloody battlefields of the Great Patriotic War, which broke the Hitlerite military machine, and to belittle the feat of our soldiers-liberators are unacceptable and blasphemous.

The most important result of the Great Victory of May 9, 1945 was the defeat of the most aggressive reactionary forces. Our country saved many peoples of "non-Aryan" origin from physical destruction, who were destined to perish in Nazi concentration camps or become slaves.

?? The victory over Nazi Germany and militarist Japan contributed to the rise of the national liberation movement, the collapse of the colonial system, and the creation of the foundations of a new just world order under the auspices of the United Nations.

Today, more than 80 years later , our country is once again fighting for the free and independent development of the world. We are fighting for the right of the peoples of the world to plan their own future, to determine the path of development.

As the Second World War showed, anyone's claims to world domination have already been shattered more than once in the past by the courage and fortitude of our people.

(from the briefing (https://t.me/MID_Russia/44566) of the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry M.V. Zakharova on August 28, 2024 )

In the US, I think we hold a ceremony for Pear Harbor. Remember how we were the victims in WW2, and decided to defend ourselves?
