WTF Wednesday

Welcome to my newest outlet, a blog that I’m going to call ‘WTF Wednesday’. I’m not sure if it’ll be published every week, or monthly, but I can promise to provide a somewhat consistent dose of - hopefully relatable - content for you to come across that you can laugh at alongside me. On Wednesdays.

In my job as a consultant the shear number of WTF moments I experience daily is still shocking to me. There have been so many times in my career where I thought, “no one would believe this sh*t”. As such, I wanted to pull a funny WTF moment for our first time together, so here we go – read all the way through to the end, for the gem:

This one comes at the candidate’s expense but is really a universal lesson for us all: for the love of everything professional please CHECK YOUR ZOOM NAME when you log into a virtual interview. I know that sometimes we have gamers or youtubers or just regular Joes come through the interview process who have their own Zoom accounts (and their own personal handles/names) and logging into a provided interview link sometimes transfers that data if you’re not careful. And when it does, please make sure it isn’t highly inappropriate and extremely funny. I doubt LinkedIn will allow me to tell you what this male candidate’s Zoom name was when he entered the virtual interview (the Company was already present and waiting on him). But it was incredible. Trust me. It made me almost choke on my coffee and burst out laughing while simultaneously trying to figure out how to shut it all down to spare all of us from the shame that was sure to come. Spoiler Alert: I never did get to shut it down before everyone present took notice, the candidate included. He immediately noticed, was mortified, and exited the platform. While he did fix it and re-enter the Zoom meeting, he wasn’t quick enough and we all took screenshots ??; Direct message me if you’d like to know what the guy’s zoom name was so you can be horrified and laugh hysterically for the rest of the day. I got you. Because frankly If we can’t laugh about things, what can we do, right?
