WTF is trained vs untrained AI models?

This week, I had a moment where I caught myself saying "...and the algorithm learns and decides who to target."
But what does that actually mean??
You see, when AI is trained, it can either be?supervised or unsupervised. To understand the difference, imagine AI as a toddler. If AI is given data to learn and make inferences from, it is considered supervised, like when a parent answers a thousand "what is this?" questions.
If AI is allowed to explore, group, and learn without input, it is considered, unsupervised. Like a child playing outside by themselves.
There are benefits to using both - for example, if you allow advertising algorithms to learn what the best audience for your brand is without using a customer list or a site pixel, you may discover new, interesting personas or buyer groups that you weren't aware of before.
At CatapultX, we're working to understand video at its deepest level through our AI which utilizes both supervised and unsupervised learning to the group and understands how consumers are interacting with video. It is tailored to moments, 2-30 second chunks of video to find its context.
