If you're in Austin, Texas, there's a wonderful little restaurant that has it all - thousands of delighted customer reviews, 75,000 Instagram followers and dinosaur-shaped croissants, what's not to love?

There's just one problem. It's all fake. Every bit of it, from the 'Unreal Flavours' on the menu to the customer reviews, was AI-created to the last crouton. Unusually, it's got longevity, having been 'open' since 2023 and apparently even revenue in the form of "I ate at Ethos" merchandise.

AI Made Simple: Anthropic Computer Use

Anthropic’s new Claude 3.5 AI model can now control your computer like a human. Here’s what you need to know about the new “computer use” feature:

Claude can move a cursor, click buttons, and type text through an API, making AI-directed computer interaction possible. While Microsoft, OpenAI, and Google have similar screen-based AI capabilities, Anthropic’s feature takes it a step further by letting Claude actively interact with your system.

However, the company warns this feature is still experimental and may be “cumbersome and error-prone".

  • Human-like computer control: Claude can perform tasks by interacting with the screen.
  • API access: Developers can use this feature today to integrate AI with computer workflows.
  • Still experimental: The tool is early-stage, prone to errors, and needs feedback for refinement.
  • Limited capabilities: Claude can’t perform complex actions like dragging or zooming yet.
  • Safety measures: The AI avoids social media and election-related tasks to prevent misuse.

Perplexity (Search engine plus LLMs) have launched Spaces.

It's a way of combining your personal data with web search to create grounded, AI-driven research and content. Think of it as your own mini-RAG system with web access. Here’s what you need to know:

Key Features

  • File Integration: Upload and search across personal files (up to 50 files, 25MB limit) and the web at the same time.
  • Custom Instructions: Tailor the AI’s responses with specific instructions, including tone and search focus.
  • Multiple AI Models: Choose from GPT-4, Claude 3.5 and others for specialised tasks like summarization or search.
  • Collaboration: Share Spaces with up to 10 collaborators for joint research and planning.
