Is It Wrong to Use a Ghostwriter?

No.

Next question?

Okay, okay, okay. You want more of an answer than that, so here goes.

Picture it.

A successful entrepreneur...

With an overpacked schedule..

Crushing it from AM to PM...

Fueled by unrelenting dedication and consistency.

All those years of hard work are finally paying off. You're carving a name for yourself in the industry, and you are right on the precipice of being seen as a thought leader in your field. You have insight that people need to hear. And how will you package that precious knowledge?

Simple.

In a BOOK!?

And you’re going to create each page of that book with "all that spare time you have," amiright?!? Ha! That's incredibly wishful thinking. But by all means, if writing a book sounds like your cup of tea, I will be the first person to tell you to go for it! I know if I had to do it all over again, I'd have written my first book much sooner, but the universe knows when it's time for us to embark upon any new journey. But I have a feeling that if you've read this far, then the signs are all around you that it's time. It's more than time. Just know that you don’t have to do it alone. There’s an alternate solution that might be perfect for you…a ghostwriter.?

But I get it.

There's something about that idea that may not feel quite right.

Trust me, my friend. Hiring a ghostwriter is 100% legit and may be the answer you didn’t even know you were looking for.

You’re a Busy Professional and You Just Don’t Have the Time. Period.

If the thought of writing a book seems to be enough to push you over the edge, you are not alone. Writing a book is an easy feat—said no one ever. Your calendar already looks like a Tetris game that you’re struggling to beat. Why on earth would you want to add anything to it that’s not absolutely necessary, let alone a major project like writing a book?

Let’s face it—writing a great book takes people months, sometimes even years. And time is money. So it’s no surprise that as a busy professional you don’t love the idea of putting “write a book” at the top of your to-do list.?

Even if you do happen to enjoy the art of writing yourself, sitting down to create a book probably sounds like a luxury you can’t afford amidst your chaotic, jam-packed schedule.?

In our fast-paced world today, where time is often the scarcest resource, the idea of writing that book may feel as daunting as climbing Mount Everest.?

Don’t you worry! Just like celebrities have ghostwriters for their memoirs and award-winning musicians have songwriters behind their hits, you too can have a literary maestro penning your thoughts while you continue to focus on conquering your industry.

This is where the ghostwriter swoops in like a superhero, rescuing you from the clutches of writer's block and time constraints. Think of hiring a ghostwriter like any other task you outsource.?

And I know you're outsourcing things. If you're a success, you're not doing all of it yourself. You can't.

Do you have an accountant? A gardner? A housekeeper? A babysitter? A virtual assistant?

The list goes on and on, but you hire professionals in different fields to get things done that need to be done. Delegating various tasks to others is a wise choice, my friend. The same can go for using a ghostwriter to help you write a book. By outsourcing the writing, you free up your valuable time to do what YOU do best while the ghostwriter gets to do what THEY do best.

Time Cannot Be Duplicated…Use it Wisely

Even if you think you may have some wiggle room in that hectic schedule of yours, who says you want to spend it writing a book? There’s a reason we don’t have “Do It Yourself” (DIY) tutorials for everything in life. Some things are better off left to the professionals.? And your time is better spent devoted to YOUR area of expertise.?

Don’t allocate your time on something that you can outsource and have taken care of for you—not to mention more effectively and efficiently. Trust me on this one.?

You should continue to focus on whatever it is that you excel at. After all, you didn't climb to the top of your industry by being a jack of all trades. You’re an expert in your specific field, not necessarily in crafting the perfect sentence. So, diverting your energy from your specific prowess to tackle writing a book seems like an outrageous idea.

Plus, even if you’re not spending your time on other work, you should at least be spending it on something you enjoy. Life is too short to have it be all work and no play. Live a little!

Let Your Words Sing Even if You're Not a Wordsmith

Not everyone is born with a pen in hand, ready to craft prose that dances off the page. We weren’t all blessed with the innate ability to weave words into a tapestry of literary brilliance.?

If your writing skills are more like a rusty swing set than a well-tuned orchestra, there's no need to fret. A ghostwriter will take your ideas, your voice, and your personality and compose them all into a symphony of words that captivates your audience.

You don’t need to become a wordsmith yourself. That’s a tall order and way too time-consuming. Simply hire a ghostwriter to serve as the linguistic conductor of your thoughts.

Your words deserve to sing on the pages, and a skilled ghostwriter can be the virtuoso to make that happen better than you could ever have imagined on your own. So why would you ever settle for mediocre when you can have a rockstar writer crafting your narrative?

You Want Your Book Done Write Right?

Becoming a proficient writer takes time, effort, and a hefty amount of hair-pulling frustration while staring at a blank page. Sure, sometimes in life when you want something done right, you just have to do it yourself. But on the other hand, if you don’t have the faintest idea as to how to do something, and the learning process is uber stressful, that’s when you bring in the professionals.??

Hiring a ghostwriter is a lot more efficient than attempting to learn to become a writing expert yourself. With a ghostwriter in your corner, your book will be complete without missing a beat! Plus, it’s a great way to increase your chances of publishing a book that your readers will love.

Ghostwriters are experienced in the field of writing, typically having other titles under their author belt. From outlining and structuring your book into sections and chapters to creatively weaving in storytelling throughout, a ghostwriter ensures your book not only gets done but that it’s completed in a stellar fashion.?

Think of it this way—using a ghostwriter is like having a personal trainer for your book. You don't have to spend years mastering the intricacies of grammar, storytelling, and structure, on top of the various techniques. Instead, you can rely on an expert to guide your book through a literary HIT workout, sculpting it into a masterpiece, all without even breaking a sweat.

The Milli Vanilli Effect—Avoid the Lip-Syncing Dilemma

Remember the infamous Milli Vanilli scandal? The pop duo soared to the top as they found international fame and even garnered a Grammy. Then their world came crashing down when it was revealed that they hadn't actually sung a single note on their album. Some may think using a ghostwriter is likened to the whole Milli Vanilli fiasco, but it’s not. It's not even close.

First of all, when you hire a ghostwriter, it's crucial to maintain authenticity. Your book is a collaboration between you and your ghostwriter where the ideas are coming from you. The content is coming from you. The strategies are coming from you. The stories are coming from you. The ghostwriter is perfecting and polishing those words so you sound your best. And it should be agreed upon upfront whether your ghostwriter is publicly credited. As their title suggests, ghostwriters often are not recognized with their names appearing nowhere in the book, and that’s the nature of the work.?

Unlike the Milli Vanilli case, you aren’t stealing the spotlight from your ghostwriter or taking the ghostwriter's ideas and presenting them as your own. Those are your ideas, just made better by a writing professional. And it’s not like the ghostwriter signed on to write your book thinking they were going to be featured on the cover as the author. If anything, they signed on to be part of the behind-the-scenes magic that goes into creating a book.

It’s almost as if a ghostwriter is a background orchestra enhancing your performance, not a substitute for it. Your voice, your experiences, and your ideas are the stars of the show. The ghostwriter is merely the backstage crew, ensuring everything runs smoothly and looks fabulous.

One Final Note

In the grand symphony of life, sometimes we all need a little support hitting the right notes. Hiring a ghostwriter isn't a sign of weakness—in fact, it’s just the opposite. The most successful people and the most confident people know they can't do everything and they known when to call in the pros. This is yet another a strategic move to ensure your knowledge, your perspective, and your story are presented in the best possible light. Period.

Having a ghostwriter is definitely not a Milli Vanilli move where the spotlight is stolen and credibility is questionable. It’s more like hiring an assistant to transform your industry expertise and amazingness into a melodic tune of words worthy of a standing ovation.?

So, don't be afraid to shine on stage with your literary accomplice. Let your words sing for the whole world to hear. And remember that in the world of words, YOU are the rockstar. Your ghostwriter is the roadie making sure your performance is nothing short of legendary.

As an author of 13 books, even in this Chat GPT/ AI world, I choose to make the time to write every word. I like the feeling of being able to say "I wrote this book!" and mean it. That is not important to everyone, and that's ok. To each their own. I have a formula that allows me to write the book in 1 weekend after some preliminary outlining. Then I send the manuscript to another SME. Then it goes off to my editor, who knows my voice so well she can fix the readability. FYI The formula is so good I put the course on Thinkific! https://timogiuniversity.thinkific.com/courses/how-to-write-your-first-book

This is everything a ghostwriter should provide to their clients. An author can also take their partially-completed manuscript to the next level by working with a ghostwriter who also provides developmental editing. *Throws hat in the ring for business and leadership manuscripts.*
