Writing may be extremely gratifying for anyone, young or old. It's a delightful hobby and a creative outlet for some writers and it's a dream career for others. You could be excited but also a little intimidated when you're just starting.

You could be wondering, where should you start? What exactly do you need to know and understand?

The beautiful thing about writing is that you can keep improving your talents and perfecting your craft no matter where you are in your career. There's always something fresh to learn or try, whether you're a complete beginner or a best-selling author.

Here are eight pointers that will assist you when you are starting out as a writer.

1.?????Experiment with a variety of writing styles.

You might not know what you want to write when you first start out — all you want to do is write! Alternatively, you may have a specific type of writing in mind.

As a beginning, you have the opportunity to experiment with a variety of writing styles without having to commit to one in particular. So give a variety of genres and styles a go. You might be surprised at what you like.

2.?????Read some blogs or books about writing.

There are some fantastic books and blogs that will teach you the fundamentals of writing.

Beginner writers, on the other hand, frequently get into the trap of reading and reading in order to acquire everything there is to know about writing – but they never actually write! So don't get too caught up in reading and forget to set the table.

3.?????Begin with small projects rather than full-length works.

If you've never written much before, jumping right into a novel won't work. You'll either run out of steam after a few chapters, or you'll keep writing but end up with a story that requires a lot of work before it can be published.

If you're a fiction writer, start with short tales, or if you're a nonfiction writer, start with short articles or blog entries. These can be a wonderful method to test out new ideas and topics without having to commit to a full-length project right away.

4.?????Regularly write to avoid losing momentum.

Some writers recommend that you write every day.

Setting a writing plan that works for you and your life is fine. However, make sure you schedule time to write on a regular basis. If you don't write anything for weeks, you'll eventually lose steam. Most people find that writing at least once a week is sufficient.

5.?????Use simple, straightforward language.

While some people might adore words and enjoy the sound of some of the more unique ones, it is usually best to keep things simple. Readers don't care whether you received extra credit in school for displaying your great vocabulary!

Of course, you should pick the phrase that best expresses your meaning: occasionally a precise, technical word, even if it isn't the simplest, is the best option.

6.?????Use Different Words Occasionally

If you use the same word often in a short period of time, the reader will notice it and it will become a distraction from your writing. This is especially true of uncommon terms.

7.?????Past and present tenses should not be mixed.

When writing fiction, you must pick between past and present tense, which might be difficult to grasp when you're new to writing.

You can tell the story as if it happened already or you can also tell the story as though it's currently taking place.

8.?????Concentrate on one character's point of view at a time.

Even if you're writing in the third person rather than the first, it's a good idea to limit yourself to one character's point of view in any given scene or passage. This is known as "third-person limited" or "deep POV," and it differs from the "third-person omniscient" viewpoint found in classic 19th-century literature.

This tight third-person perspective is expected by readers, and it lets you to focus on one character's ideas and viewpoint at a time, allowing the reader to empathize with and truly understand them.
