WRITING SMART

Just moments ago, I was trying to come up with an idea, a smart concept -in philosophical context- to write about. So, my subconscious came into play rather hastily, asking me what do you mean write smart? And then, I thought that I should delve deeper into this enigma that obfuscated my mind. I am not a certified writer and I definitely have never attended any sort of writing class. But I like being critical and argumentative. I enjoy using rationality to demur incongruous conclusions, stemming from arcane, veiled and equivocal treatises that conquer the world through the general consensus of human beliefs. I guess this is also part of my inquisitive scientific mind, driven by research questions that I want to resolve. Being a researcher means exactly that. Keep on asking these questions. Keep on doubting anything that makes perfect sense even if it’s proven irrefutably with ‘good’ science. But enough with that. Let’s roll on the most crucial part of my thinking process, which is abstruse even to myself sometimes. I have to admit that, before I write to you. Stay tuned. It’s here. Smart, cunning, intelligent, imaginative, resourceful, manipulative, perspicacious, enlightened. All these words are pretty much synonyms. They can be used in different context and they can be distinguished between them. Fun fact. I have no clue where I am going with this. I just write my line of thoughts. Crazy, huh? Not even close. Wait for what follows. Everyday paradigms of brightness are encountered and captured by our subconscious. A sarcastic comment from a co-worker might be an incentive that will trigger chaos propagation within our brain. That erratic neural behaviour will stimulate our memories to be flooded and resurface. When we receive a visual stimuli, we are able to identify a colour, a face, a symptom, due to the ‘good’ prejudiced capacity of our brain cells, responsible for memories. If our brain forgets, if our memories faint in the darkness of it, we won’t be able to characterize a single colour. We have to learn it from scratch. That’s where the brain physiology truly becomes a paradox and confuses the definitions and the synergy between our cells, our consciousness and our will. Our brain is not so solidly established as thought. There are many plastic attributes that render most of the cortex patterns flexible to environmental changes. This allows, to put it simply, a certain degree of freedom and perhaps revolution to our memories. This can be compared equally to the rebellious nature of cancer cells, which break the barriers that the brain poses to our whole system, pushing it to function so that we as a whole can function without irregularities. Fun fact 2. I still don’t know where I am going with this. But guess what, that’s the fun about it. Exploring the unknown. When that sarcastic comment hits our cochlea, the latter will induce a cascade of steps through which wave vibrations will be translated as neural signals and interpreted by the brain as information, which needs to be stored. Even Internet got that right. You can verify it by reading a medical book, unless you are really busy with Instagram. Human brain still remains a fascinating and unexplored entity. Do you still follow me? Or are Instagram memories flooding your mind? You see what I did there? Just one word and now you can’t stop thinking about posts, stories, followers. And now faces or relating comments revolve around your head. And connections. A profusion of connections. A forgotten message or a comment that hurt you, because you should know that memories are tagged as emotional, when they trespass your amygdala, located on your temporal lobe. And they are the ones that will emerge first or even be more powerful. But it is truly awesome how your brain will start forming all these connections among people, comments, attitudes and the more you think about it, more connections will be made and you will end up crazy. Luckily, for us there are functionalities or better said switches that disconnect our brain from overload, before we realize on real-time that these journey across our nerves. But there are people who can withstand that and it’s what makes a smart person, a true genius of it’s era. Sherlock Holmes can think like that when he infers hidden mysteries of committed crimes. If you are interested, check Low Latent Inhibition. That’s what preserves Holmes observational skillset. But let’s go back to the word smart. Fun fact 3. I am stuck now. I feel hungry and sleep is almost beating me. But I have an urge to continue. I just want to think of a fancy phrase to get back at you. Here it is. I have it. Finally. Compromising our ethical restraints is a sacrifice for humanity due to our brain’s intention to camouflage our mind as intelligent. That’s the pith of the endless debate between our own will and our brain’s power. One would ask, isn’t everything an aftereffect of our brain decisions? Yes, that’s indeed partially true. But think of practical intelligence and then think of emotional intelligence. Our rationality is empowered by all the strategic plans that our brain sets up, but our will to help a person is inflicted upon us, due to empathy, guilt, moral responsibility. Reflecting on these words, I am not stating anything that people don’t know. I just remind you what we tend to forget. Our bodies are nothing more than slaves of our mind, which makes absolute sense and you all know about it. For our desires, we are eager to commit the greatest atrocities and the greatest achievements, regardless they are driven either out of love or spite. You can make anytime any choice that you feel is best for you. But do things work that easy? Certainly not. There are by far more than one underlying distinct conscious entities inside us, wishing to thrive and explore. Exploring ourselves and our consciousness to its farthest reach is an adventure that we need to seek. A canny reader would suggest that I knew from the very start where I would end up. Maybe you think that I had a vague idea of where I would go with it and then my subconscious connected all the dots that arose from all the different stimulations that echoed within my brain. Maybe I knew exactly the structure of this text and I just played with your mind to provoke you. I’ll tell you what. It doesn’t matter. There is no objectivity in truth, because each brain is unique. Despite the fact that we share with each other 99.9 % of our genetic code, taking into account the number of base pairs that comprise our DNA, this is still enough to make everyone unique in appearance, even in the case of identical twins, where environmental or genetic factors might incur a change even in them. Now apply the DNA principle to the experiences we face every day. How many of them are exactly equal. Even taking a parallel road from somebody else with the same final destination, might be a life-changing event. That’s how random life is. Each one of you will and should interpret this writing piece as a way to embrace a different reality. Regardless whether you share opinions or not, it’s irrelevant to me. Writing smart is not always about making a strong case against a political agenda or a scientific debate or a social issue. It’s about revealing yourself, your intricate thought process to the rest of the world. If I challenge you enough to wonder about my reasons and what purpose does that piece serve, then I think it should be enough. You should already know by now. You should just ask yourself one thing. CAN I WRITE SMART?

Aggelos Vrynas?how we write can be an expression of ourselves like art. The way you wrote this article is the way I feel everyday with my ADD mind. I have a million ideas and they are all over the place. My life feels like that at times as well. Sometimes, like you, "I still do not know where I am going with this." What keeps me from going crazy is how much I am enjoying the journey and connections with great people like you. Being married to a very stable wife helps as well. I am continually learning how to balance having so many ideas with staying focused and organizing them for maximum impact. Thanks for sharing your article in this way Aggelos Vrynas. It struck a chord with me.
