Writing to reshape your world

Writing to reshape your world

I started writing online a year ago but I didn't decide to seriously apply discipline and consistency until 5 short months ago.

I began this writing project because I wanted to see what might happen. It was following a failed attempt at automated LinkedIn outreach for our family marketing business. We worked with a team for months and it got us nowhere. I don't want to be accosted by strangers in my email box. No one else does either.

But it did get me thinking.

Because when something doesn't work like you expected, what do you do? Hopefully, you think. And better yet, you think critically.

Why didn't it work? What could we have done differently? How can I learn from this? How can we get better?

I had heard consistent online writing could open doors. And I was curious about the truth in that. But the thought of writing, truly putting my thoughts out there on LinkedIn was terrifying to me. And I had no idea how I was going to deal with that. But like most things in life that scare me, the only way I would find out was to dive in. Or fall in.

So I did. And while there have been way too many trying moments to count, it has shifted my worldview for the better. It has opened my eyes to the vast number of global opportunities for anyone willing to dig down deep and use their voice on a worldwide platform.

Some of the noteworthy new experiences I've had since I began my online writing journey:

  • Discovered and became completely passionate about personal branding and the opportunities it creates. I know now it's the answer to so many challenges for entrepreneurs and organizations alike.
  • Met and exchanged ideas with so many wonderful people that I never would have crossed paths with otherwise. It's about the people. Connecting with and learning from individuals all over the planet is awesome. There's so much to know.
  • Taken inspirational branding classes where I met instructors and students whom I have formed genuine friendships with.
  • Addressed (mostly) my fear of writing and sharing my experiences online.
  • Created and posted videos on LinkedIn.
  • Learned to use and love Canva - I've made more than 100+ designs to date.
  • Built my first website.
  • Designed and created digital documents and automated flows.

Catch my drift?

And now here I am experimenting with creating this newsletter.

None of these things could or would have happened had I not decided to stretch WAY outside of my comfort zone and try something completely new to me. Isn't that a hint, though? If it scares you, there's a good chance it's a growth opportunity you should pursue.

That said, there's a reason many of us stall or procrastinate on stretching ourselves...and the same applies to me.

I've suffered with:

  • Imposter syndrome - Many days this had me sitting in a slump wondering if I should nix the whole idea.
  • Feeling like a fraud - Why would anyone care about what I had to say?
  • Feeling like I didn't deserve the opportunity - a repeating theme in my life when I feel good or am excited about something.
  • Feeling a loss of confidence from surrounding myself with the unfamiliar.

In other words, the whole thing has been the real deal from a growth and development perspective.

The takeaway -

We've all heard it before. But it's true. Nothing good comes easy. I can honestly say, my comfort zone has expanded 10fold. And something amazing has happened in the process. Now, when I look around at the people I know ...my brain is bombarded with all of the opportunities I see for them that aren't being realized because they aren't willing to show up online. Life changing opportunities...passing right before their eyes. All you have to do is open your eyes a smidge wider. They're there!

They aren't willing to use their beautiful voices and talents for the greater good...yet.

And I get it. I was the same way. Until an open, curious mind caused my world to reshape.

So what are you doing right now? The tools are right here...literally at your fingertips. And many, if not most, are free. Are you ready to level up your skills?

These aren't only professional skills anymore. They're life skills. The resources are there. All you have to do is use them.

This first issue of "Believe in You" is a new beginning, because I'm learning so many professional and life skills. I want to share what I'm discovering. I hope you'll come along for the ride with me.

What do you have to lose?

Until next time!
