Writing & Publishing A Book Wrong Is Like Un-Toasting Over-Toasted Toast

Writing & Publishing A Book Wrong Is Like Un-Toasting Over-Toasted Toast

One of humanity's great truths is that writing and publishing a book the wrong way is like trying to un-toast over-toasted toast.

Because you can't. Specifically, I'm talking about lots of books that are written by coaches, speakers, coaches, consultants, and small business owners. Books that are intended to position that person as an expert. As a thought leader. As an influencer or an authority.

But so many of the books are like over-toasted toast. They're published and nothing happens. Few book sales. No leads. No clients. No speaking gigs. No consulting opportunities.

NO IMPACT ??

Why? They are over-toasted. That usually means (one or more of the following)...

  1. the author didn't take the time to speak to their audience — and what they need RIGHT NOW—but instead relied on their expertise to carry the day.
  2. the focused more on informing than inspiring and showing the reader what's possible by debunking the biggest myths
  3. their title doesn't make their ideal clients stop and pay attention
  4. the book doesn't gain them instant trust (because they don't feel “just like family” to the reader)
  5. their book isn't easy to read BUT it's easy to forget
  6. their book doesn't make it clear that they what makes their clients tick. ?
  7. they don't seed their offer throughout the book without sounding like a sleazy, used car salesman
  8. The pages and sections that share their story are forgettable AND inauthentic
  9. the book doesn't set the readers on the path to a “high ticket” offer
  10. there's no harmonious mix timeless wisdom, universal human truths, stories, AND valuable information
  11. the author paid for 5 figures or more JUST FOR PUBLISHING without the benefit of business development

So what's the answer?

In a nutshell, you're better off not overtoasting the toast. (Yes, this applies to your book and how you're publishing it.)

And in this free training, you can learn the keys to making that happen.

Ben Gioia ("joya"), as a book publisher, I often see new authors making this mistake repeatedly. Most authors mistakenly write on a topic and in a way that is comfortable and familiar to them instead of what their audience might really need. How do you determine what your audience might really need? Ask them! Before you even outline your book, test your ideas on those people you're trying to serve. Schedule 20 interviews and talk to people on the phone or Zoom, not just email. That's how you'll figure out what they need and how you can provide that. Think of the power!

I agree I see these mistakes happening and it is so important that you have clarity of what you want to say and why otherwise you can write the wrong book for now And it is not an easy or quick process which means not only money but valuable time is wasted

So true!! And you hit on a couple of great points that I would say apply to a lot of things! Like not speaking to your audience before creating - or not listening!
