Writing Project? Your New Best Friend: ChatGPT by Andrea Campbell
Let me ask you this question? When you’re told to create a document involving writing do you suffer from blank page syndrome? You know, it’s that feeling that wipes all the good ideas out of your brain, makes you stare out the window, or sends you to read email. In other words, it becomes a major time-suck.
If that describes you and your angst, welcome your new best friend, a chatbot called: ChatGPT. ChatGPT was released late last year and this technology, which uses a type of artificial intelligence, has already taken the writing world by storm with its machine learning system—LLM—a large language model that produces ostensibly intelligent writing off of a massive data set of text. Used by researchers and others who must create essays, summarize literature, and improve papers, it will be the catalyst to revolutionize writing.
For example, I went onto the site, typed in my ID and password, and asked ChatGPT some questions. Here is a slight demonstration of what I got back:
?Question: write some background information on chatGPT for an article that explains what it is, how to use it, and the benefits it provides.
?ChatGPT’s response to its benefits (a partial, as I got 3 paragraphs): The benefits of using ChatGPT are numerous. First, it can be used to automate customer service, reducing response time, and increasing efficiency. It can also be used to generate personalized content, such as product recommendations or news articles, at scale. Additionally, it can assist in data-intensive tasks, such as data entry, by generating text based on patterns in the input data.
I also asked: what is ChatGPT's future?

ChatGPT’s response (in brief, here is #3): Increased efficiency: As hardware and software become more powerful, language models like ChatGPT will become faster and more efficient. This will make them more accessible and user-friendly for organizations of all sizes.
When I asked it this: Do you feel like ChatGPT is controversial or like cheating?
ChatGPT said: Some people believe that using AI models like ChatGPT to generate text can be perceived as "cheating" because it may not reflect the original thoughts or ideas of the writer. However, others argue that AI models can be useful tools for assisting in writing tasks and can help increase efficiency and productivity.
What do you think!? By the way, it also told me that while its usage may be controversial, it has the potential to be a valuable tool if used responsibly and ethically.
In closing, I would make one suggestion however, remember to add some of your own personality into your writing using stories, personal experiences, or first-hand models—you’re not a robot after all are you, and you don’t want to read like one?
