Writing Business: Why are they dying and what can you do?
Writing is an art that connects you to life.
The business of writing is thousands of years old. Scholars used to write about their inventions and discoveries. Historians and explorers used writing as a tool to give future generations a glimpse of what they saw. Writing is an art that comes out of pure creativity, it helps you escape the world and at times experience more of the world. It helps you get a glimpse inside you as well as into the mind of others via autobiographies. This art is magical and it saddens me that one of the oldest art is dying. With the introduction of artificial intelligence writers around the globe started losing their jobs or getting a pay cut. The reason being it's cheaper to hire an AI model for writing marketing content than to hire a creative writer.
Beginning of the end
I am a writer myself though I am not successful but I have seen my own traffic going down and losing audience interest. The reason is not that I have lost my ability to flatter my audience. But, the developments in the Internet information world. Informational writers such as me used to earn by writing blogs and ranking in search engines for user queries. But, today chatgpt summarises our blogs to find the exact answer that the user is looking for. This takes away traffic from our blog to chatgpt and what do we get in return? Nothing. That's not it. Another thing came in short-form content such as insta-reels, and TikTok. In the beginning, it was just entertainment now there are informational short videos as well.
The main challenge that we writers are facing is the lack of reader's attention. People who like TikTok videos are less likely to read blogs than people who like long youtube videos. And all the scriptwriters are being thrown out if they can't create short-form content scripts. Ghostwriters still have some relevance as they are not that easily replaceable. But, soon there will be a ghostwriting AI model. With all these challenges approaching what are we supposed to do? Shall we just leave the only thing that we enjoy doing or can we do something better?

Opportunity
I have a concept in life whenever there is a crisis look beyond the clouds and you will see an opportunity. The writing industry is under a crisis but I see this as an opportunity to grow. What separates writers from all these other content creators is that every piece of content that is out there whether it is a podcast, short-form video, or long video is inspired by the work of some writer. So, why not writers themselves start creating these alternate forms of content with their original writings? Now, let's address your insecurities. Oh, I don't have a good voice, use a bot to read your content. There are free bots out there and if you don't have a bot just use text-to-speech on your smartphone. Tweak the sound and upload it on a podcast.
Now on video, I am not energetic then don't show your face. You are creative think of a way to produce an interactive video without faces. Learn a bit of animation, creating presentations. Get a dog to dance with your voice in the video. Anything works just experiment a bit. Writers need to learn skills to be better video creators. They just need to follow where the attention of their user base is. If you are a great writer and your audience loves you. Your audience will love to listen to your podcast, watch your dog videos, and watch your youtube vlogs. The only way to survive is to change the way you deliver your content.
What does the future hold?
It's not quite easy to comment on the future. But, I am a firm believer in soft skills. Writers are highly creative and the demand for creativity is not going anywhere it will only increase. Maybe, not in the field of writing. But, one thing is true lazy people will get nowhere and will be forgotten soon. Only people who are able to adjust and change themselves as per the user base's demands will survive. And I think that's true for all businesses. I mean if you start selling cold water in the Himalayas your business will fail but if you sell the same cold water in the Dessert you will end up becoming filthy rich. On that note! We end this here let me know your thoughts in the comment. And subscribe for more business content.
