Writing A Better LinkedIn Summary

Writing A Better LinkedIn Summary

Here are some of the most common topics covered in LinkedIn summaries. You don't have to use all of them, but covering some of these will help significantly.

1. Describe your passions

What excites you most professionally? What drives you besides the paycheck? Expressing your passions make some great summaries. Opening up about what you love to do adds context to your career. This is great if you’re younger and don’t have much work experience.

2. Explain your current role

Job title aside, describe what you do in the simplest terms. Share some of the problems you solve, for whom you solve them for, and how you solve those problems is a great way to demonstrate your skills and industry knowledge.

3. Frame your work experience

Outline your job history and gloss it over to best suit your needs. If you made changes in your career or have had unrelated roles, connect the dots so they make sense. The language used will be better received to recruiters and LinkedIn.

4. Your accomplishments and volunteering

Name your accomplishments, proud moments, and successes. Mention your volunteer work.

5. Show your life

Great summaries hint at character traits like humility, gratitude, and humor. Pick stories that show who you are as a person, not just as a professional. Be honest with yourself, authenticity is key. Think of a trait you’re most known for and work it in. Share your hobbies and interests. Correlate your passions to your work.

It's so important to be active and have a presence in the digital world. LinkedIn is my personal favorite social channel because of its professionalism and wealth of information. It is also the largest platform for doing better, being better, and moving forward. I hope that this is helpful to anyone who needs it! Have a great day!
