Writing Beautiful Code
Linda Rising delivered a message to the future where she expressed her observation that most programmers believe that if a problem is difficult, then the solution should also be difficult to understand and maintain. She recalled an incident where Joe, her data structures class student, showed her a code that he thought was hard to decipher. Linda asked Joe if his younger brother could understand the code, to which Joe replied with a resounding no. Linda then urged Joe to think of every line of code he writes as a message for someone in the future, someone who may be as smart as his younger brother. She asked Joe to imagine that the code he writes would be a beautiful piece of code that can be easily understood and admired by others. Joe left feeling inspired to write beautiful code that would make the world a better place for his younger brother, Phil. #WritingBeautifulCode
